| FiOS VOD and HD Samsung HDMI Issue....
Hello experts,
I have an interesting problem that I would like some help on PLEASE!
I have a Samsung 56" DLP with an HDMI Cable running to the Motorola QIP6416-2 Verizon FiOS STB. I have an interesting problem occuring when I browse VOD or change from HD to SD programming channels...
My understanding is that the STB DOES change the video format for different channels is this correct?
For example, when I browse to VOD using the remote, I can view the guide and select the movie or show I want to watch, however when I select "Watch Now" and the show actually begins to play, my Samsung TV gets a message saying "Mode Not Supported" but I can still hear Audio. My understanding is that this is a problem with the HDMI handshake? Does that sound accurate?
I also get some very weird green screen when swapping from HD programming to SD Def channels, it's like the STB is changing the format it sends.
The ONLY way I have found to get this to work is using Component cables with seperate Audio cables, is there any way to adjust settings on my Samsung or STB to accept any format?
I have tried every setting for Video Format on the STB, they all work except for 1080i ( I have a 1080p DLP ), and they adjust fine using the remote, however when you change channels to VOD you still get that "Not Supported Mode" message.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated...

| You might have 480 overide turned on turn on everything then turn off dvr hit select then menu check 480 overide and turn it off make box output everything 720p and u should stop getting that problem. of course using component cables will eliminate problem but i cant see the difference in pq i like 480 sett to output non hd channels in 480p then the tv fills the whole screen (stretched i know but i like it better than black bars) |

| reply to Alex The motorola set boxes and samsungs using hdmi dont work to good together. Your better off using component cables. If your only getting mode not supported your lucky, most of time the samsungs cause the STB to lock up and you have to power reset the box to clear it. |

My Samsung LCD and DLP work fine with the Motorola box HDMI. You just have to make sure 4:3 override is not set to 480i. |

| reply to Alex Samsung DLP and HDMI work fine together. There is a known bug that when you change the output resolution in the IMG, the 4:3 Override feature changes to a default setting. If you have it set to OFF, it's back ON.
Work-around is to go into the setup menu and change the 4:3 override to OFF. Do this everytime you change the output resolution.
Another bug is that there is a problem using HDMI with the color space set to YCC. Primary problem is for a green stripe showing, but who knows what's affected. Change it to RGB and see if that helps with any of your problems.
The color space is in the advanced HDMI settings.
To access the setup menu: Power OFF, Select, Menu. You might as well change both settings while you're in there. |

Change it to RGB and see if that helps with any of your problems. The color space is in the advanced HDMI settings. I have yet another HDMI issue since the new IMG was forced installed. On the left side of the screen about 1" or 1.5" wide (52" LCD) the whole video is shifted vertically. This was not there prior to the new IMG and does not show if I switch to component (but HDMI looks sharper). And yes I do have the green line if I switch the color space to YCC which did not happen before the new IMG.
Have posted this to the direct forum with no response yet.
EDIT Missed that topic was Samsung, guess I'm OT - mine is a Sharp. Didn't mean to hijack thread. -- REMEMBER: Stupidity should be painful !! |

| Keyboards, this bug is part of the vertical green line issue - I have the same problem with my Sharp LC-46D82U. It is supposed to be fixed in the next IMG maintenance release. I had to switch to component, since leaving HDMI set to 720P wasn't the best option.... |

| Thanks Dave, At least we know they are working to have it fixed. Dave are you experiencing the burriness that others are seeing especially with the URGE channels and do they know of a fix for that? It's just on the DVR's. Thanks. |

| reply to nycdave Thanks NYCDAVE for the update. I think VZ is getting pissed at me. Mine is the only post not responded to yesterday in the direct forum (this would be my second open ticket{1st has been been open for 2+ month}if they ever respond). I guess if you actually expect them to deliver quality they don't want to talk with you -- REMEMBER: Stupidity should be painful !! |

| reply to Alex FIOS, Samsung TVs, and HDMI are incompatible according to Samsung. Use Component Video Cables until Verizon has a fix. Here's a summary of the chat with a Samsung Rep:
Asher R: Hello, I am a Samsung HDTV LiveChat representative. How may I assist you today? Sam: Hi, I bought a 4665f LCD and I'm having some issues with my FIOS STB Sam: Are there any issues that you know of b/t samsung 4665f and FIOS TV's motorola STB? Asher R: Let me check it for you. Sam: basically, the STB freezes up. I'm using HDMI Asher R: Okay, thank you for the information. Asher R: Thank you for waiting. Asher R: FiOS has hardware/firmware issues with their boxes. Asher R: Asher R: They are telling the customers that HDMI is not compatible with the Samsung TVs. I hear they are working on that issue. Sam: geez, so I should use Component Cables for now? Asher R: Yes, you are right. Asher R: I request you to contact Verizon to see when a fix will be available for their boxes. Sam: ok, thanks for the input. I'll test out the component cables to see if that works. Sam: Call verizon too. Thanks again Asher R: You are welcome. Is there anything else that I may assist you with? Sam: no, that's all. Thanks Asher R: Thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. Please click on 'Close' button to end the chat session and take few minutes to fill in the Customer Survey Form. Your feedback is greatly appreciated Asher R: Have a nice day and bye! Sam: u 2 |

| I have a Samsung 40" LCD HDTV Model LN-S3241D. I have had Numerous issues with my FIOS HD DVR STB since its install almost a year ago (Feb 2007). My Install took more almost 10 hours! They replaced the ONT 3 x's, HD/DVR STB 4 x's, HDMI cables 2 or 3 x's they even tried component cables and it didn't make too much of a difference (they never left me cables either) all within those 10 hours! The only reason they stopped was because it was getting late and they could not figure out why the picture looked so bad. Besides, the techs needed to go home and finally eat dinner. Yes TECHS (Plural), they had about 4-5 people at my house! The later it got the more techs arrived. The other techs in the area completed there intalls and wanted to lend a hand to my installer. All the guys were Very nice and all tried to give ideas to help out!!
It was late and the assigned installer called it quits for the night. He called dispatch to reschedule me to complete the install so they could provide a clear, quality picture. He was to come back by 10 am the next day but that NEVER happened and i never got an answer as to why they never came back to complete the install.
I finally called and complained about a month later. They sent a "Specialist" who walked into my house, never turned on the TV and said. I cant fix the problem because its the best you will get with your SAMSUNG TV. I told him my TV was only 3 Months old and worked FLAWLESS with Comcast HD. He told me Fios uses a better Signal then Comcast and cant compare the 2, it would be like comparing an Apple to a Potato and said nothing more he can do and left! He at my house for no more the 5 minutes!!!!
So i was left with many unresolved issues, words that are shadowed, every image has a fuzzy line around it, small pixilations on the screen as the techs described it and many more. This is just a SMALL portion of my many issues with Verizon Fios not to mention my 2 separate no call no shows on the initial install. I lost 2 days of pay and never reimbursed. All this just to find out that my $1100.00 Samsung LCD HDTV is not compatible with Verizon Fios.. WHY NOT? |

| reply to Alex I have the same problem with my Samsung 61" DLP HDTV. It all started about a month ago. The Mode Not Supported message appears and I have to unplug my verizon box to reset it. What is worse is that the HDMI input on my TV actually fried about 2 weeks ago and I had to have circuit city come and replace the circuit board. I am afraid that the DVR caused the problem. Further, the probelm I have now is that when I try to follow the suggestion on this forum to change the 480 override, I cannot change it using the Menu button when the DVR is off. If I press menu when the DVR is off, nothing comes up on the screen. I may have to switch to component cables just to keep this from happening and keep from frying my HDMI input again. |

@level3.net | reply to Alex You were right. I guess they did this just to confuse us. Anyhow, does it matter if the 4:3 override is set to off or to 480p? Which is better? Opinions?
Thanks for the help. |
