| Got it installed, finally... few questions about the DVR
1. If i start watching half way into a show, is there anyway to just record the entire thing?
2. How do I offload my recordings on to a Ext HD or PC? The FIOS Tech said officially there is no way, but people on the net have hacked some stuff into letting it offload...
3. Do I need to update my DVR in any way... or should it already be up to date? If so, how?
-thanks |

| reply to ajskhan 1. If the DVR has been on & tuned to the channel since the show started, it has been recording the show in a buffer. If you decide to record the show, the DVR will use the buffer info to go back as far as it can to begin the recording. I believe it will go back somewhere around 30-40 minutes (not sure what the exact figure is). --If you just tuned to the station, then the DVR won't have anything to "go back" to & the recording will begin at the point you tuned to the channel. 1a -- you could also schedule the program to record in advance. 2- you can run a connection (s-video/rca audio or whatever your input device accepts -- I have a Panny DVD recorder) into your device & then play the program from your DVR & record onto the device. If you record "live" thru the DVR, just remember the DVR output will change along with any channel changes you make. 3- DVR should be up to date - will receive updates thru the router as needed |

| reply to ajskhan 2. There's no hack I've seen or heard about for the FIOS DVR. There's ports for expansion but they aren't active and from reports from folks familiar with the hardware, the firmware doesn't support it so it's not just a matter of Verizon not allowing us to add drives. -- Tweaked your connection? | Mail Parse | Speed Converter |

1. If i start watching half way into a show, is there anyway to just record the entire thing? Hit the record button and it will record whatever is in the buffer, plus the rest of the program.

You are confusing the Verizon Motorola DVR with the TiVo for FiOS. The TiVo ($200-$250) lets you expand storage and download recordings to your computer over your home network; the Motorola DVR does not allow you to do either. There are no hacks.

Verizon is only responsible for the graphical interface. It is up to Motorola to develop and support other features.

3. Do I need to update my DVR in any way... or should it already be up to date? If so, how? Whenever a new update for the Motorola DVR is available in your area, it is automatically downloaded to the box. |
