Re: Actiontec Firmware {4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7} Bug - Static IPs

So if I had internet only for more than a year, the router became mine, but when I added video after the first year it became theirs again? WTF????

Video does not work without the Actiontec router. Therefore, Verizon HAS to be responsible for the router for as long as a customer maintains video service. I am sure they must realize this.

UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!

I too thought I had found and "fixed" the issue by blocking the open port. So, it wasn't that open port that they were using to push the firmware updates after all?

Someone said (in another thread, I believe) that the router (re)loaded the new firmware after the router was power cycled. This seems to be the case with mine. Yesterday or the day before, my power "blinked out" for 1 or 2 seconds, so the router would have rebooted. Now, I just discover that my DHCP list is suddenly failing to display the static IP reservations once again...because the stupid firmware is back to .56.

Dammit all. I'm stuck because I have internet AND TV, so I can't just throw a Linksys router back up there. I really wish they'd fix this buggy crap. FIOS support supposedly talked to an Actiontec rep when I was on the line, and "confirmed" that Actiontec is well aware of these issues. They should stop the damn f/w pushes until they figure out why it's hosed.

fwiw: verizon tech advised me that a hard reset of router (back to pre-verizon branded interface) and then disable of auto updates will prevent further auto updates of firmware. said he got this from actiontec support whom he had on hold at the time.

haven't tried it myself.

The ONLY thing you need the AT for it to function as a NIM.

The AT does not provide any video functionality, other than to allow connetion between the ONT, AT and STBs over coax.

1) If you have a cat-5 connection to the ONT, you can connect the linksys directly to the ONT and place the AT on a LAN port behind the Linksys. Or get a NIM and remove the AT altogether.

If you have a coax connection to the ONT, you have the following options:

2) The best option is to convert your connection between the ONT and the AT from coax to cat-5. Now you can connect a Linksys directly to the ONT and place the AT on a LAN port behind the Linksys feeding only the TV's. If you want, get a NIM and get rid of the AT as in #1.

3) Leave the AT connected to the ONT and configure it as a bridge with a Linksys behind it:

»How-to: make ActionTec MI424-WR a network bridge
