Because they got an 8 yr contract with a guaranteed income stream after DirectTV started pushing their own boxes instead of Tivos. In other words, they needed the money to stay alive.

This isn't being done by Comcast alone. This is a join effort .. so any bugs are the responsibility of them both. It took two signatures to release this one.. One from Comcast and the other from Tivo.
