| reply to tomdlgns because the cords going to your phone won't seat correctly. the locking pin on the cords will only allow them to plug in one way adn that will have the plug centered inthe jacks and using pins 3-6, with 4&5 used for line 1. -- Lack of Preparation on YOUR Part does NOT Constitute an Emergency on Mine! |

| reply to tomdlgns said by tomdlgns :how does pin placement matter? instead of using 8 pins im going to use 4.... I did not say anything about placement, I said that the RJ14 plug will not seat properly in a RJ45 jack. Yes as ATTek said people do it all the time. It is not a secure connection. I ended up putting RJ45 plugs onto the phone lined that I have plugged into my patch panel. |

Plug your regular phone cord in, IT will work just Fine. |

| reply to nonameyet thank you...
i know the phone plug will plug into the cat 5 becuase i already tested it, i just wanted to know the best way to punch it.
usually i am pretty good about using the right parts, but i dont have that stuff in stock and i need to get this done by today or tomorrow.
it is just temporary until all the work gets finished...the job got sidetracked for a few weeks. i can order these online, or pick them up at home depot?
our radio shack sucks.

| reply to tomdlgns Use the middle pair (Blue wires, 4&5, showing w/8 wire connection...) for line one and the NEXT pair out (Green wires, 3&6) for line two. |
