i am running 2 new voice lines in my office and i am going to use cat5 keystone jacks...

should i use pins 3 4 5 6 on the cat5 jack? if i use pins 1 2 3 4 it would be off center.

You have to use the correct one.

Because a RJ11 plug (2 wire POTS) or a RJ14 plug (4 wire POTS) will not be properly seated in a RJ45 (Cat5 network).

because the cords going to your phone won't seat correctly. the locking pin on the cords will only allow them to plug in one way adn that will have the plug centered inthe jacks and using pins 3-6, with 4&5 used for line 1.

Use the center 2 pins for line one and the 2 outside of that for line two. People do it all the time. You could get an rj-14 keystone module but the one you have will work.

I did not say anything about placement, I said that the RJ14 plug will not seat properly in a RJ45 jack. Yes as ATTek See Profile said people do it all the time. It is not a secure connection. I ended up putting RJ45 plugs onto the phone lined that I have plugged into my patch panel.

punch line 1 on the white/blue pair
punch line 2 on the white/orange pair

Plug your regular phone cord in, IT will work just Fine.

Cat5 & Cat3 connectors are two different sizes. If you're bent on using a cat5 jack at the wall you could wire the side that goes into the wall with a Cat5 connector and the other end going to the phone with a Cat 3 connector.

thank you...

i know the phone plug will plug into the cat 5 becuase i already tested it, i just wanted to know the best way to punch it.

usually i am pretty good about using the right parts, but i dont have that stuff in stock and i need to get this done by today or tomorrow.

it is just temporary until all the work gets finished...the job got sidetracked for a few weeks. i can order these online, or pick them up at home depot?

our radio shack sucks.

thanks

You should be able to get Keystone Jacks at Home Depot

Use the middle pair (Blue wires, 4&5, showing w/8 wire connection...) for line one and the NEXT pair out (Green wires, 3&6) for line two.
