i think it sucks that comcast is charging extra for this. the fact is that their standard DVR software is complete garbage. they shouldnt be offering this as an upgrade to crap, they should be changing their supplier to this better software as the standard | | fiberguy My views are my own. | If you were in business and you had to buy something for X amount of money, would you simply give it away? .. or would you charge for it?
The iGuide being "crap" is subject to opinion. To be honest, I've had the command buffer issue a time or two, but I don't seem to have the same issues that some others complain about.I still have the same DVRs that I've had since the III series came out. | | nipseyrussel Nipsey Russell, yo

my point is that they are simply switching suppliers BECAUSE the existing supplier's software sucks. this should be the default. its garbage to offer an inferior product at a "discounted price". If coke finds that their sugar supplier is providing rancid sugar (ok, dont know if sugar gets rancid) and uses a higher priced sugar supplier to ensure quality, they dont offer Sh*t Coke at $1.00/bottle and Decent Coke at $1.40/bottle. They simply dont offer the Sh*t product to the public (yes, even if it means a price increase) because no one wants to perceived as a Sh*t vendor. So if i were comcast, i certainly wouldnt want to say: well, you can get a decent box for a few dollars more or you can stick with the Sh*t Box at a lower price. This isnt an add-on per se but a quality issue in my mind
also, its nice that your experience has been trouble free, but i've heard far and wide complaints for a long time and mine works for total crap and seems to have been designed by a retarded lemur. i think every day i get angry at the thing and wonder "why would someone make it do that????" Not a big deal, but why on earth would i want a big box to block my screen for 60 second while i'm watching tv to tell me that the other show finished taping. dumb | | fiberguy My views are my own. If you chose to take the Tivo software, you'd have to pay for it.. after all, comcast is passing it along as a consignment fee from Tivo.. why should they give it away for free? Comcast IS the supplier of the iGuide. They own part of the company that developed it.
..also, its nice that your experience has been trouble free, but i've heard far and wide complaints for a long time and mine works for total crap and seems to have been designed by a retarded lemur. Those with issues do not make up anywhere near the majority experiencing problems. There are numbers to back that up and prove that statement.
The fact, alone, that more people will make it known when they have a problem over those that will make it know they are happy is at least 10 to 1.. and even then I think that's a scewed number.. I think far more people complain than that statement.
If the DVR was a total inoperable piece of junk, comcast would need an entire fleet of techs JUST for the DVR, and they don't.
While I won't say that the DVR is perfect, none are - even Tivo, they are also not all paper weights and yes, more people than none have mostly problem free use of the service. I'm not the only one.b

1) it's not 60 seconds.
2) you can hit EXIT on your remote and that BIG BOX goes away.
3) ask another person that wants to know their recording is done so they can have their tuner back what they think of taking it away, and they'd probably cry as loud as you are.
You can't please everyone every time ... you have the option to buy/purchase a Tivo box if you want and try something else. But, why on earth would anyone want to purchase the hardware that they are REQUIRED to pay a monthly service to use? Now THAT's dumb! Why can't I purchase a piece of hardware and NOT take their guide, and simply program the box to start and stop based on time I tell it AND use it to replay / time shift live tv? You want dumb? THAT is dumb!
