| | Wonder about non TV Uverse people I'm a UVerse VDSL customer without the TV (had the bundle, cancelled the TV due to the crappy DVR). I wonder if, since I already have the necessary hardware, if they'd let me upgrade. (not that I really want to for that price - see below)
I'm not really all that concerned with the DL speed, it's the UP number that I care about. I can't believe with the popularity of Flickr, YouTube and people VPN'ing into work that upload speeds haven't increased much over the last decade. (unless you're in a FIOS neighborhood)
I've got the 3/1 package now for $30/month and would be willing to pay another $10-$15 a month for 3/3 or 6/3 or something, but 1.5 up for $25 more? I'm not impressed. -- Eric SmallingDFW, TX

Everybody here that's pissing in the wind about how old this is compared to other companies....wtf are you doing with 10mb download? I mean seriously, I get bored just trying to fine enough stuff to read/watch while drinking my coffee. The internet is vast and amazing, but seriously, unless your downloading porn/movies at an amazing rate you can't possibly be utilizing 10mb fully.
It's like having a 67 Shelby Mustang sitting in your garage....that you only use to get to the corner store. Sure you get there fast and back, but is it the use of it?
I just don't get all the hate. If you don't like Uverse, stick with cable....hey whatever works for you....but stop bitching about it then all the freaking time. -- My Blog. Because I desperately need the acknowledgement of others.

| My thoughts exactly Dennis. I would love to have what I consider the sweet spot of 8meg down/1meg up. I am currently at 6meg down and it is almost to 8meg on my DSL. When I was with Comcast, 8meg tier suited me perfectly well. Anything above that for me is wasted. Just my two cents. -- The weekend is here, grab a can of beer! | |

However, this is still America. Choose your provider. If you don't like it, then don't go on whining and moaning. Just make your choice with your wallet.

I post a lot of pictures and want to do more video so distant family can see the grandkids. 1Mb/sec up gets old quick when you're dealing with media.
Another big pain is with offsite backup solutions. I've played with Mozy and JungleDisk but the initial hit to upload on 1MB is much too slow to bear. (I'm impatient!)

$55 might work for say 15 or 20 down / 5 up.

How come I can't say, order home service from Verizon? Why is it they have the country carved up geographically and refuse to compete in most of it.? -- "Regulatory capitalism is when companies invest in lawyers, lobbyists, and politicians, instead of plant, people, and customer service." - former FCC Chairman William Kennard (A real FCC Chairman, unlike the current Corporate Spokesperson in the job!)

Phones were expensive, nobody used them except businesses, and nobody set up competitors. Eventually they merged into "Ma Bell" in the 1920s/1930s. Also telephone companies were required to provide universal service and other regulations, in exchange, they got a monopoly.

Also most telephone deregulation/unbundling, forbids competitors from running their own lines to someone's house, under the justification that poles and streets can't be a birds nest of ducts and cables. I belive the farthest a CLEC can build their own infrastructure is to your neighborhood cross connect box (IE put their own RT next to a cross connect/ILEC RT), but I've NEVER read of any CLEC actually installing RTs. Even if CLECs could run lines all the way to your house, which the Telcom Act of 1996 was supposed to encourage them to do so, with the intention, that one day CLECs wont need to rent any ILEC network parts, no CLECs ever did run anything to people's houses, since they were happy to sit and rent ILEC network parts, and collect the markup on them, they declared that it was expensive and everyones rates will go up or that they will go bankrupt (whether its true, IDK).
