2 edits | Motorola Setup with my Linksys Router
I am unable to get my brand new DSL modem (Motorola 2210) to connect to my Linksys WRT54G router. I have the DSL modem set up to use a public IP address. I have tried to manually put in the DNS servers on the router UI. I am unable to do any DNS lookups and get any web pages or other apps that use the internet to work. I don't have any manual IPs set on my computer and the router has worked great with other ISPs. At one point I was able to get it set up and working but my connection would drop 3-4 times an hour for about 15 seconds and then work again. I am almost positive the router is working fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

| Reset the modem to default and make sure it is logging in properly (plug your computer directly into it bypassing the router). Then set the Linksys to pick up its WAN address via DHCP. Your computers should use the Linksys' LAN address for both the gateway and DNS (relay). -- Toolmaster of La Grange. |

| reply to mrjaques If you can't (or don't wanna) change the LAN address scheme to 10.x.x.x you can set the Linksys to use 192.168.2.x on the LAN . Be sure to change the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 if it is not already. I've successfully used this Linksys router with many modem/routers but you have to make sure there are no addressing plan conflicts. -- Toolmaster of La Grange. |

| reply to mrjaques The easiest way I have found is to do a master reset on both, put the userid and password in the modem, plug the router in front of the modem and that fixes it. Make sure the system is not running a pppoe client. All Linksys routers I have works with defaults to 192.168.1.1 for an IP That works fine with the modem at 192.168.0.1 |

| reply to mrjaques Found this in another post, very helpful - helped me out of the same problem. Changing the IP of the router to 192.168.2.1 resolved all my issues.

| reply to mrjaques I resolved the issue. I had to install the open source dd-wrt firmware and set the router's LAN IP range to 192.168.2.x. I also had to manually put in the DNS servers on the router. It appeared to be an issue with the newest Linksys firmware which was resolved when I put the dd-wrt firmware on. |
