From talking with another forum member it sounds like an issue with this being a residential location instead of business. Sounds like I am going to have to tell Verizon (when they install the phone lines for the new construction) to set things up for at least 4 T-lines. Hopefully then we won't have problems finding a company to run a T line to residential. Qwest may not do it.

Qwest won't install residential. If any of the quotes are from Qwest or a reseller, you can forget those.

Yeah it sounds like we have to go elsewhere. My understanding is that there will be others that will do residential.

The price will go up significantly though. I can do an AT&T reseller for $1,550 without router for a 3.0 meg connection.

With router, the cost goes up to $1,641.

Free install for both if 3 yr term.

First rule of thumb is to not listen to other posters opinions on what people can and cant do. I.e. (Qwest.) Not all of us are swimming in the same pond.

Interesting. Here in PA, I have a Qwest T1 coming into a home (Verizon land). I was told that whenever it is out of Qwests territory,they could care less about where it terminates?. This would be a mute point though if the original poster is in Qwest's area.

I have had some *well-qualified* customers looking to have a T-1 line installed into a home office. I've been told they wouldn't do it and we had to go with other alternatives.

I've also seen several other resellers post similar experiences. However, I will keep that information in mind for future sales as some of my best prices are often through Qwest resellers.

If Qwest know it is residentail they usually will kick the order back, however if they don't know it can go through

I have sold a few Qwest T1s to residences, never had any kicked back however I know of others in my office having deals kicked back

You never know if you don't try, and if it get's kicked back that early there probably won't be a cancellation fee

Why would there ever be a cancellation fee if the provider is the one dropping out of the contract (assuming a contract had even been signed at that point)? Unless you mean the provider paying the cancellation fee to the subscriber which would be nice but never going to happen.

the issue really isn't if Qwest will or won't. the issue is to disclose to the client that there is a jeopardy that Qwest might or might not fulfill the order. If the client is in a hurry ... if some project has a deadline, if staff are being hired or if they are subcontracting for some larger purpose, and the order is canceled two weeks later, then the timeline starts all over again and the financials of the next best deal might queer the whole project. As reps, we have a responsibility to qualify for residential/commercial, and if it's residential and the choice is sourced on Qwest then we have an obligation to warn the client that the deal might tank. It is not acceptable to suddenly reveal to the client two or three weeks into the project, "sorry bud, can't do it for that price, see ya."

I agree with everything you said but I don't see what that has to do with my comment about the cancellation fee, maybe I'm just lost though. But just out of curiosity, what does Qwest have against residential installs? What if the location is technically a residence but has a business registered there (while still serving as the occupants place to sleep at night)?

I'm not aware of any carrier that would charge a cancellation fee if it is the carrier that cancels the order.

There are many problems with residential accounts ... Qwest may have decided not to support them for any of these, plus others
--residential accounts are quick to cancel T1s prior to term once DSL and cable become available for lower price
--telecom carriers are loath to offer term plans to residential accounts as consumers are quick to go to regulatory bodies for relief
--residential accounts typically don't have the inside wiring infrastructure, nor the understanding of backboards and power supplies, to support T1 circuits. leads to extra handling and additional costly re-dispatches.
--residential accounts are often difficult to provision due to lack of facilities for digital services
--too many residential accounts are in rural areas, with limited network on the poles, to support uninterrupted digital services.
