| [Alcatel] SpeedTouch 530 port forwarding problem
Hello all and thanks in advance for all replies.
My question involves a Alcatel/Thomson SpeedTouch 530 DSL router, firmware version 4.2, but it is of a generic context as well.
My setup is as follows: The router is operating in PPPoA routing mode. Its outside IP is statically assigned by my ISP while its inside IP is 10.0.0.138. On the LAN, there's a PC statically configured as 10.0.0.1/255.255.255.0, gateway 10.0.0.138. The PC is running Windows XP Pro and Apache server bound to 0.0.0.0:80. No firewall's interfering (zone 10.0.0.0/255.0.0.0 is defined as trusted allowing all inbound and outbound trafic on the PC). To conclude, a NAPT rule is defined on the router, mapping outside_IP:80 to 10.0.0.1:80.
The problem is that I can't connect to the Apache server on the PC from a browser on the same PC using the router's outside IP. However, when I use 10.0.0.1 or localhost, I can see web pages generated by the Apache just fine. When I use the router's outside IP, I simply get a timeout after a while.
The question, to begin with and possibly a very stupid one, is whether that is normal behaviour. Is it actually impossible to access a NAPT-configured PC using the router's outside IP from within the LAN the PC and router are on, or is there simply something wrong going on?
I would also like to apologize for my potentially bad terminology or poor descriptions and expression, I am neither a network expert nor a native English speaker.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. |
