| said by brorjace :is your hard drive full? or nearing being full? It was at 47% last night before it started the recording, it has varied from low to high when the other recordings dropped. I'd have to ask my buddy what his was at when he lost Terminator Chronicles. |

| I know I was not asked but I am curious of the outcomes here, I rent my box, I have the 16 and I am normally anywhere from 40 to 70 percent full.
I dont recall ever having a program freeze on me, but I did notice something strange the other night. I was taping one show while watching another. I started to see some picture impairments that looked like a streaming video. I killed the other recording and the picture cleared up.
So that brings me to my point in all this, anyone taping at the same time as watching another program, when this occured |

Dr. Dog, to answer your question. I have noticed it during those instances, where I am watching something on the DVR while something else is recording. But I have also had issues with pretty much any other scenario, be it watching something a DVR recording while not recording anything, watching live TV while recording something else, or while not recording something else (this one is rare), and especially while using the live TV playback after pausing and restarting and fast forwarding.
The thing is though, it is not always pixelation, it is also recordings stopping half way through (sometimes able to restart to watch the rest, other times no), and chopped audio.
I didn't have problems for about 3 months when I got the DVR, it worked great, but a few weeks ago it is progressively getting worse it feels like. To the point where I am hesitant to record something or pause TV in case it messes up and I lose the recording. --

| reply to DrDog said by DrDog :So that brings me to my point in all this, anyone taping at the same time as watching another program, when this occured Our usual routine is to tape all our programs, then go up later and watch them so as to skip all the commercials. Many times the "16" is actually taping two programs at a a time. I love the versatility of this box because even as both tuners are taping you can actually watch the stuff you've already DVR'd.
The problem the signal gets dropped while were not watching. By the time we get to watching the program that has lost signal, it's too late to try to grab the time shifted version.
This issue AFAIK occurs on the HD channels as I don't bother recording anything on the SD channels. I wish Cogeco had timeshifted HD locals like Bell has.
DrDog the terminator chronicles you mentioned recording with no problem, was it SD or HD?
Lately I have paid attention to which tuner drops the signal because I remember Marcer mentioned that when both tuners are used the 2nd one gets a slightly weaker signal, but the last few times this has happened I've been only recording using one tuner.
I guess till I find out whats going on here, for HD programs I really want to watch I'll have to start recording the SD version on the timeshifted channels.
It would be nice if Cogeco like Shaw would let their customers choose between a Moto box or a Tivo dual tuner 850 hour recorder! Especially at under $400!! |

And yes it would be nice to have more choice when it comes to these things, this Motorola one isn't the greatest.
Series Recordings are an issue with me as well, half the time they don't even work it feels like. --

| Not sure
But being a field tech, I don't really look at stuff like that in great detail, I have my own stuff to constantly follow, but I have read and heard about them.
Maybe someone from activations or the call centre may have a better idea |

| reply to hdtvguy Some interesting developments following the visit by the tech this morning...
He checked my line out and the connection is perfect, no errors he said. Having no problems with the connection, so he said it must be an issue with the box itself. He told me to take it over and get it swapped, which was fine by me, I just wanted it fixed. Also to note, the tech that came was excellent, very helpful and friendly. I came away from that very positive.
So I run over to the Cogeco store at the mall all prepared to swap it, until I start talking to the girl that worked there. I tell her about the tech visit this morning and the problem that I am having with the DVR, and she kind of made me feel silly by saying that its a common issue, lots of people are having problems with it including herself, and she proceeded to run through the various issues with the DVR.
Here is where it gets interesting... she said that there is a known issue with the software on the DVRs that is messing up recordings, and that an update is on the way to fix it... problem is, according to her the update won't come until March. In the meantime, Cogeco is crediting DVR accounts $5 a month starting from December until the issue is fixed. I now have about $20 of credit on my account. She told me that I can get it swapped anyways, but it most likely will not fix the problem, and said if anything it could get worse. Plus she said if I do swap it, thats the last time I can swap it. I didnt know what to do, I kind of wanted to swap it but at the same time was concerned that it would be the last time I could swap it. Plus if it is going to be fixed in a few months, then maybe I can tough it out, especially since I had programs still recorded on it. So I ended up just keeping it and I am going to wait it out. Although I would kind of like more then $5 a month for this inconvenience.
Another thing that she mentioned was that she was a bit surprised that the tech didn't just mention to me the issue with the DVR to save me the trip in. She said that they(meaning the retail store people) have been telling the techs for months that there seem to be issues with the DVRs because tons of people have been coming in hoping to swap. She basically said that the techs were in denial about it.
Anyways, looks like we will have to wait for this supposed update. I dont know why it is going to take so long. Can anyone from Cogeco on here comment on this or confirm it? I'm not too thrilled about this all, especially with the amount per month I am paying for this service. --

| Hi. I just experianced the same issue the other night for the first time. I got half way through my show and then the screen just went black and then it stopped playing the show. Rewinding and fast forwarding didn't help. So I happen to look on the forums and here lots of other people are experiancing the same issue.
Lets hope that there will be a fix real soon. |

Well if I remember correctly - when you turn the box on and are recording nothing, begin recording - then thats thru the primary tuner, when you attempt to record a 2nd program the box will ask you if you want to swap to your other tuner, that would be the secondary tuner than.
