 | Port Forwarding/Static IP Address Windows XP Motorola Netopia 2210-02
I need help! I'm a beginner and would like to do port forwarding and would like to get simple steps to accomplish this. I googled it and could find nothing to follow.
I understand that I also need to set up a static IP address and I'm not sure how.
Can anybody help me! Thanks. |

4 edits | As far as your Static IP address goes you should not have to do anything for that to work if you have the single Static IP address option. I'm assuming that you are not a Multi-Static IP address business user and are just a home user.
»AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ : Static IP FastAccess Info.
About the port forwarding, check out my replies to this thread »Port Help with Netoptia modem model 2210 and maybe that can help you, because it helped that guy. Some of the screenshots and steps might be a little different then what you might encounter, but you should be able to get the idea. I would leave the IP Passthrough thing alone. Do the port forward thing.
Edit: I clicked on your username and I see that you have asked some questions about how to put a Westell 6100 and Motorola 2210-02-1006 into "Brigded Ethernet" mode. If your modems are in "Bridged Ethernet" mode then you don't need to do any port forwarding on your modems.
Do you have a seperate router that you are using with you modem?
If you have your modem in "Bridged Ethernet" mode with a seperate router then you will need to do your port forwarding on your router.
If you have a seperate router then there are forums here that can help you. Equipment Support··Residential home networking, and related equipment. »/forums/all?cat=6
About that Static IP address, are you talking about a Static IP address that you got when you ordered your FastAccess Internet service? |

 | Thanks for your prompt reply. What I really want to do is port forwarding. I've an AT&T Motorola Netopia 2210-02-1006 which I think is dynamic. I don't have anything else, just the modem to which I want to do port forwarding. I haven't done anything yet until I'm sure I know what I am doing. Could you help? Thanks so much! |

1 edit | Did you read my replies to this thread? »Port Help with Netoptia modem model 2210
It's got pictures and links to other FAQs that can help you.
DO NOT do the IP Passthrough thing talked about in that thread.
Do you know what ports that you need to forward and what programs you are having trouble with?
Does your computer have a software firewall?
You can check out that info and try to do it by yourself.
If you can accomplish it by yourself you will fell better if you can do it.
You can not blow your modem up if you make a mistake. You can always reset it and start over.
If you can not do it, then yes I will help you.
I have been awake for about 16 hours now and I really am going to go to sleep. It will be sometime tomorrow before I will be back.
Edit: One thing that might not be clear to you from those posts is that you should type 192.168.1.254 into your browser's address bar and click go or press the enter key to access your Motorola's Configuration GUI. |
|
 | reply to caridura I forgot something. Under "Service Name" the application I want to open ports for is not on the list shown in the modem. Also, I don't have a router and I do have a Firewall which has been configured to always permit the application. So that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks. |

| You have a computer and it has a software firewall on it.
Your application is installed on this computer and the software firewall on this computer is set to always allow your application access to the Internet.
Your computer is directly connected to your Motorola 2210-02-1006 modem.
Is all of the above information correct and has any information that we might need to know been left out? . . . Caridura, what application are you needing to forward ports for to allow it through your Motorola 2210-02-1006 to be able to access the Internet? |

 | Thanks for your response. You know, I think I put the answers to your questions on the page where the instructions are. Stupid me! Anyway, the configuration of my modem is different but I was able to figure it out. Under "Select a Service," my application doesn't appear but, if I understand it correctly, on the "define custom service" the application should be entered, then the ports that I want to open. (I do know these) but I'm confused as to the "Base Host Post" - is it my PC ID or what? The modem's firewall is set up at "low." Sorry, I'm a bit of a slow learner. I really appreciate your help. Thanks. |

3 edits | Why so hard? You are killing me here. Throw a dog a bone!!!
Is the application that you are using and the ports that it needs forwarding a secret?
If they are not a secret, then please tell me this information.
If you will give me this information, then I will post you instructions with PICTURES. . . .
Below is an example of the information that I am asking you for.
Application Name: Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
TCP Ports that need forwarding: 28910, 29900-29901
UDP Ports that need forwarding: 13139, 27900, 65000 . . .
Please help me to help you.
Edit: Changed Tiberian to Tiberium |
|
 | Thanks for your response. You really made me laugh! For someone with so many problems to solve you're amazing! The info is not a secret but there are all kinds of people reading these things and there are so many people with bad ideas... Let's just say I'm distrustful.
Application: Anonymizer Ports forwarding: 4662-5230
I won't know what you'd put under TCP or UDP ports
Don't forget the "Base Host Post."
Would that help? |

4 edits | Above is a video in the Windows Media Video format that corresponds with the below example. This video must be played in a player that can play .wmv format files.
Gateway: Westell 6100 at&t Southeast/BellSouth version B90-610030-06 firmware ver. 3.08.02
Application Name: Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
TCP Ports that need forwarding: 28910, 29900-29901(This is a range of Global Ports 29900-29901, the Base Host Port is 29900.)
UDP Ports that need forwarding: 13139, 27900, 65000 . . .
Note: The above example contains a mixture of TCP Ports, a range of Global TCP Ports, and UDP Ports to be forwarded to a specific computer/device on your Local Area Network.
The above example was done with a Westell 6100.
The Motorola 2210-02-1006 has a configuration GUI that is almost exactly the same as the "New Style" configuration GUI in the Westell 6100/Westell Versalink 327W there may be some differences. The configuration GUI and the idea's should be extremely close to each other.
The reason that I did not use the Motorola 2210-02-1006 is because I very recently gave away this modem to a friend that lost his Netopia 2241N-006 due to an electrical surge. I have asked this friend if he would be willing to trade the Motorola back to me temporarily for one of my other spare modems and he said that he would. He was going to bring it by before he went to work but could not make it today. I should have this Motorola 2210-02-1006 modem back tomorrow.
I will be working in conjunction with the member KeysCapt to help build an AT&T Southeast Forum Motorola FAQ on the new Motorola 2210-02-1006. KeysCapt is an editor of the AT&T Southeast Forum FAQs. Me, Airwolf7 is just a nut that sometimes has some extra free time on his hands and every once and awhile knows what he is talking about.
Somethings most likely will work differently with the Motorola than they do with the Westell. Some things in the Westell do not work or are broken and this is probably is not the case with the Motorola.
If the Motorola works differently than the Westell then I will reply back to this thread and the Motorola FAQ with any new information.
The way that I showed to open a port in the Westell is the only way that it works with the Westell. There are several other ways to open ports with the Westell but they do not work. These other ways may work with the Motorola.
Try the info that I have posted and see if you can get it to work. If it does not or you still need help reply back and I will help you to get this to work.
I you do get this to work reply please back so that we know it does. . . . Edit: About your application, I could not find any info about it.
I don't know if those are two seperate ports or a range of ports.
I would have to assume that the ports are TCP.
I will need more info about your application to research it.
If you want you can IM me here at Broadband Reports by clicking on the question mark next to my username Airwolf7 and you will see Instant Message Airwolf7 and a yellow box that you can type your message into and send it to me. . . .
Edit: Changed Tiberian to Tiberium, will change video when friend stops by to swap Motorola 2210 for other modem.
Note: Sometimes this friend of mine is a "fair-weather friend", when he needs something he is always my friend when I need something this is not always the case. If this ends up causing delays then I may just get me another Motorola 2210-02-1006.
Edit #2: My friend called me at 2:30PM today before he went to work and told me he was sorry for not getting back in touch with me earlier and he told me to come by tomorrow at 10:00AM and I could swap out the modems. |

 | Thanks so much! You really are amazing! Don't underestimate yourself ("a nut" and "every once in a while knows what he is talking about"), wow, you DO Know what you're talking about. I'll work with all the info you've given me and I believe that this time I understand. Will keep you posted. Thanks for your patience, knowledge and understanding! |

 | reply to caridura Worked like magic! Thanks a million, Airwof7! You're tops!
