| Got my MBR-400 today.... wont stay connected.
I got my MBR-400 out of the mail this morning at 1 am, spent 2 hours trying to get it to connect to the net for more than 3 seconds.
I am on Millenicom with a cdu-680.
the modem works great in my computer, but last night it wouldn't connect in the router.
my speeds were Legend this morning, max of 2.7 mbps floating around 2.5 mbps. but only with the modem in my computer.
I followed the assent video and most of the time the router wouldn't show the CDMA in "status". after three extra reboots and letting it sit un-powered for 5 min. I got it to see it in "status" but it would not stay connected.
the longest connection was about 3 seconds, just enough time to get a response from a web site, but not start loading it.
this morning at 9:30 I plugged in the modem and it connected first time. I got one good speed test (1.1/566),and three web sites. then in the middle of the third speed test (1.0/?) it dropped. I went in and "status" was "connecting.....disconnected......connecting....." (wash, rinse, repeat.) for 4 minutes.
I called Millenicom and got support. they said to remove the veriszon info on the "user name" and "password" sections. something both the assent video and QIG says not to do.
after the reboot it connected and surfed fast and strong.
Yay!
then disconnected again 10 min later. same con... discon... con...
I called assent.wireless and "left a message" (they usually call back within an hour). and then let it sit in the router for 30 minutes, still no better. pulled the modem and reinserted it. connected. and now has been working fine for.... uhm.. 29minutes 84 seconds.
I'll post again for an update after Assent calls me back.
BTW: why does "search" not work right? I search for MBR-400 and get nothing. I use googles site and get three links to This forum. even in the smbb part of wireless.
what is up with that?

1 edit | By DC, do you mean 'disconnected connection' or 'dumped connection' or something along those lines?
This is a pretty serious issue and this is the first post I've seen with this hardware combo and this particular problem. Other users of the Franklin CDU and the MBR assent router were pretty satisfied with it, so I wonder what's going on here and what sort of adjustments, if any, does the router permit to be made to the operating params of the Franklin, the way you could if you used the USB device on a single computer with the appropriate connection manager software.
Did you say you got nothing on a search of MBR-400? Assent's website is www.assentnetworks.com
Please keep us posted on how you resolve this issue. |

| actually, I know their web site. but thank you very much for the link.
it is the search Here on dlreports that isn't returning hits.
even though google returns hits from here.
so far still waiting for a call back and now surfing just the modem.

| Got a call just a bit after that last post.
Eddie stayed on the phone with me until we confirmed this is not just a user or settings error.
Reset the router, set all the settings where they needed to be.
Still not sure what the problem is but He is sending me a replacement unit and will look into the one I have now.
Guess we will see.

| When you were using the original MBR router, how does it treat the Franklin device, meaning what sort of connection do you choose? PPPoE, or DHCP or what? Also, does the MBR offer any control over the Franklin like the desktop connection manager or My Network Places/connections does, or is it just plug it in and put in the connection data? I've not seen any screen shots yet of the MBR user interface and since I've got one coming imminently, I'm more that curious.
Thanks for your input!

| reply to mmrs Received a New MBR-400 today, plugged it in, put my modem in it, checked the settings(all correct).
and it worked like a charm. Not one problem and speeds identical to the test I preformed just before I installed it.
I'll post again in a week, or if I have another problem.

| I've got a couple of tips for you with this CDU/MBR combo.
1. If you tinker with the router settings, as I and many others are fond of, sometimes you can 'cream' the router to where it doesn't work - it won't connect, you can't connect to it, DOA! If this happens, you can reset it per the instructions, but all the settings are wiped out. Write to Millenicom support and upon request they'll email you a config file that you can restore all the right settings from using the very bottom of the TOOLS/ADMIN tab.
2. If the blue light goes off, the router is in idle mode, not dormant. What's the difference? idle means you are disconnected from the tower. Dormant (blue solid) means no traffic recently, but still connected. If you go to idle, traffic won't wake up the connection. Yank the CDU with the router on and plug it back in and that will connect it. I'm experimenting with a scheduled pinger that pings google once every 3 hours between midnight and 9am, to see if that keeps the connection open. If it doesn't, I'll try setting both the modem and the router to 'on demand' and setting a high timeout, like 180 minutes. In 'on demand' mode, traffic will reconnect the CDU. |

(I plan to mount my router in a hard to reach location after I test it a few days.)
