Lines need an upgrade

Lines in my area are so bad I can only get 1.5M service even though I am at 10000 feet from the CO. Apparently close to 9000 of those feet are done with 26 gauge wire per the line tech I spoke with today (Can you believe it? CenturyTel actually followed up on a trouble ticket with a phone call) and he figured a trouble ticket woudl be coming when they upped me to 3M service yesterday.

So, how is CenturyTel on upgrading their lines to 24 gauge? I am guessing that I will never see above 1.5M but just wondering.

So you had 3 meg service, but couldn't keep sync? What were your stats like in your modem....for that matter, what are they like right now on 1.5?

There wouldn't be much of a chance that Centurytel will tear down copper just to put up more copper (24 or 22 gauge).

Right now at 1.5M I am seeing these numbers:
Down Up
DSL Speed 1792 320
Margin (dB) 13.0 19.0
Line Attenuation 58.0 30.5
Transmit Power 16.5 11.7

These are about the best numbers I would see with 3M:
Down Up
DSL Speed 3584 608
Margin (dB) 12.0 6.0
Line Attenuation 59.5 30.5
Transmit Power 18.0 12.3

Not much difference except for the Margin.

I didn't really think they would be replacing any copper, but they need to get on the stick with a fiber build out in the "older" (18 year old house) area of their network in this city.

That's not very much drop with your download margin considering you're doubling your throughput. Are those 3 meg stats saved from when you had the package? Do you have a DSL splitter and a homerun line to your modem jack?
