That same scenario happened to my mom's line - downstream and SNR were awesome - upstream was at 56.
I emailed SECV's Sunbury office - they actually wrote back two days later and said they had to do an upstream "sweep" of the lines - from then on it's been back in the low 40's.
I always love the fact they write back with what they actually did.

Cypher, I think you got a bad tech who put the amp on your line to fix an upstream problem. Ask your relatives what number value is on the tap. 53 still sounds too high. The higher tap values will have the highest TX levels. The lasers (and possibly actives)might need balancing ...the sweeping that Jeep referred to. |

1 edit | Well it's at my Dad's house, but I was there this weekend and checked it out...
Modem levels are now +8 forward, 37 snr, +44 return. They said it's been stable as a rock since the amp was installed.
I checked it out and it's an Antronix amp which supposidly does return path by 10db / forward by 15db IIRC. It has 3 ports on it. 1 Input, 1 Output, and 1 for the power injector. The cable comes into it, then the output goes to a 3-way balanced (one modem, one DCT-6200, one analog TV). The DCT-6200 shows +40 for the upstream modem at 11 MHz.
They have a very long underground drop out in the woods. The pedestal is pretty far up the street. There's two drops from it, but the way the wiring is setup in the home, drop one goes to that amp+3 way at that end of the house, and the other drop feeds the downstairs, and a few extra bedroom outlets. It's not possible to easily split the modem on it's own drop, unless doing some wiring outside and drilling into the brick to the inside along the other end of the house and into the office.
There gonna leave it as is since everything is working, but if I have any updates I'll post. I didn't agree with the amp either, but at least it's a decent brand all of the levels are within spec and everything's working. |

They are still upgrading stuff down our way.
For a few months on this street there was long slack of hardline extending passed the poles. The other day they finally got it cut to length and spliced in.
There's still a few of the larger devices with the MAGNAVOX brand stampped over them. The majority of the system is now C-Cor though. However after Magnavox became Phillips, C-Cor bought them out. So it's understandable that's the progression they made. The latest stuff will most likely bear the Arris name, because Arris bought C-Cor. |

My Dad got the triple play package up in Fleetwood, PA and it works great. I was there today and saw they installed an Arris Touchtone telephony modem in the lower level of their house where the electrical box is. Their HSI still comes over their owned Motorola SB5100 and clocks in about 15~17mbps down and 1.8mbps up.
And yes they did add Cartoon Network HD (Ch 259 I think?).

I always could never believe that they haven't carried BTN all this time - but it looks like my brother and parents could finally get to see BTN on Service Electric....
Sunbury is 70 miles due East of State College - no BTN
I'm in Delaware with FIOS, get BTN, the overflows, and the HD channel.
Makes no sense.

| Who does the BTN think they are? That's too niche of a network to be included on everyones package. They need to get over their huge heads and realize operators are going to want to put those niche type of channels on other tiers for those who want it. |

I'm pretty sure that all the work SECV and Cable Services LLC have been doing is replacing Phillips/Magnavox Diamond Line I series 750 MHz equipment with C-COR FlexMAX 601 1 GHz equipment. They are available as drop in upgrades to Phillips/Magnavox Diamond Line I/II housings, hence why some housings say C-COR, while some say Magnavox, but they are identical in size and casing (same fins and everything).
They are using the following from this product catalog:

So this is why SECV has way more HD channels than Comcast in most markets. SECV has taken the time, along with contractor Cable Services, LLC. to upgrade the old Magnavox Diamond Line HFC system to new Arris (formally C-COR) 1 GHz technology. |

Some customers will need to add adapters to TVs

Service Electric Cablevision is notifying customers it will be converting most of its channels to digital only.
That means customers without digital-ready TVs are going to need adapters to keep watching those channels.
The company, which serves about 33,000 customers in 30 municipalities in Berks and Chester counties, has prepared a notice explaining the changes.
Here are some basics from Service Electric:
Whom will it affect?
Customers with the Classic Cable package (channels 2 through 83) who use TVs that don't have built-in digital tuners. They will need a digital transport adapter for each TV that does not have a built-in digital tuner. To find out if your TV has a built-in digital tuner, check the owner's manual or contact the manufacturer.
How do I get an adapter?
Free digital transport adapters are being sent to existing Service Electric subscribers. That package will include details on how to order a second free adapter.
What if I have more than two TVs that need adapters?
Additional adapters will be available to rent for $1.95 month or buy for $50 each.
When will the digital change happen?
Service Electric has begun switching channels in some markets.
Am I getting any new channels?
Service Electric will add the Big Ten Network and 45 commercial-free music channels from Music Choice at no additional cost.
Why is this happening?
Most cable providers are switching over to digital. According to Service Electric, the move will create increased network capacity for more high-definition channels, faster Internet services and future products. The company also says digital signals provide superior picture and sound quality.
What if I don't install adapters on some of my TVs?
Those TVs should still be able to display broadcast channels carried by Service Electric, including CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, CW, My TV and PBS. For the time being, they will be transmitted in both digital and analog signals.
How does the adapter work?
The digital transport adapter is a small box that can receive digital cable signals and convert them to analog. It will connect between the customer's cable outlet on the wall and the TV.
Besides customers with digital-ready TVs, who else doesn't need an adapter?
Customers who already have a digital or high-definition converter will not need the digital transport adapters. |

I walked my mom through installing her first DTA this morning. She picked two up at the Sunbury office this past week.
She got it hooked up - then, the instructions said it would take up to 30 minutes for the box to activate - and that a red light on the front would blink until it was finished - and then would go solid.
So, I called back 30 minutes later, and it still hadn't registered, but as we were talking it went solid and the channels came in.
Now, they can watch Big 10 Network in the kitchen again! 
I've never seen a DTA in person, so not sure if Comcast is using the same kind.

A friend traded in an old slow DCT-2000 for a new small Pace box. I think its this one: »www.pace.com/americas/products/p···20Butler
It's much faster than the DCT-2000, does scaled video in the menus, and it's running I-Guide A25. It has a cable card built inside of it, and composite A/V out jacks. It's really small. I'd say an Arris Touchstone telephony modem is bigger than this thing. |
