It has 3 ports on it. 1 Input, 1 Output, and 1 for the power injector. The cable comes into it, then the output goes to a 3-way balanced (one modem, one DCT-6200, one analog TV). The DCT-6200 shows +40 for the upstream modem at 11 MHz.

They have a very long underground drop out in the woods. The pedestal is pretty far up the street. There's two drops from it, but the way the wiring is setup in the home, drop one goes to that amp+3 way at that end of the house, and the other drop feeds the downstairs, and a few extra bedroom outlets. It's not possible to easily split the modem on it's own drop, unless doing some wiring outside and drilling into the brick to the inside along the other end of the house and into the office.

There gonna leave it as is since everything is working, but if I have any updates I'll post. I didn't agree with the amp either, but at least it's a decent brand all of the levels are within spec and everything's working.

cypherstream posted : Well there was some trouble with HSI at my Dads house the past few days. Modem couldn't lock on an upstream channel. When it was locked, the upstream was at +55dBmv, which should work (I've seen worse work before). I swapped cables on the 3-way balanced splitter (Antronix -5.5db) and the upstream came down to +53dBmv, so an improvement, and it does seem stable. Downstream remain unchanged at -5 dBmV and SNR at 38 dB.

It's a Motorola SB5100 modem, but oddly it doesn't tell you the modulation schemes or symbol rates. This just recently started happening, so I wonder if they went with a more robust upstream modulation, which took a borderline signal and caused it to fail... They used to run QPSK a few years ago when I lived there (The modems used to actually say that), but now the modems don't report it, but I'd imagine it's 16QAM or better.

Speed tests after swapping the cables resulted in about 9.8mbps down and 0.97mbps up.

Interestingly, their SB5100 modem is always blinking the activity light. I used to have an SB5100 with Comcast before I got triple play, and that activity light only blinked when you were doing something online.
