DCT5100 HD

I have the DCT 5100 box currently. I believe Motorola has the 61/6200 boxes now. Is there anything newer out than that / should I upgrade from the 5100 box? Thanks.

Your area might have a DCH-3200, which looks nicer. It has an HDMI port and a resolution selection button on the front. Perhaps they have a PACE box, with native HD resolution pass through and cool blue LED. Who knows what they have in your area, but the 5100 is slower and very old even compared to the DCT/DCH 6200's.

If I switch it out at my payment center what should I ask for? If I call the local # on my bill, do you know if that connects me to my actual office?

I would just say it's slow and you want the latest HD box with an HDMI port on it. Best bet is just to go to the local office. The number in our area connects directly to a Comcast call center. There's no published number to reach the local pickup office in our area. Not sure about your area.

Nah, that number won't go to the office directly. You can't call them directly. The call center would have to call them up for you, find out whatever you want to know, and then tell you. At least that's what I've been told.

I remember the 5100's were one of the last boxes to ever get I-Guide. They ran Tan guide for much longer in this system. Something about the 5100's made it more challenging to port I-Guide over to. Not sure about the technical details, but yeah it's pretty old. First Motorola HD Cablebox where you didn't need an HDD-200 Sidecar connected to a DCT-2000 via the data port.

Yup. We had to wait a long time to get the i-guide on the 5100. Had it on all other boxes in the house. I don't know how many months after, but it was a long time. Not that the i-guide isn't much better now :P

I still have one. But it has been rock solid for a few years. Never had a single problem with it.

I wish I could say the same about the DCT 6412 III DVR. While it works well most of the time, it still spontaneously reboots about every other week or so.

Yea. I go to the Tunersville office, which I will be heading tomorrrow. Cable box started to give us a bunch of problems tonight so I am going to switch it out.

Also when our brilliant techs installed the box, they didn't even give us component cables. They gave us 2 sets of RCA cables to use instead. I'm going to complain and see if I can get a set from our local office -- good luck! If not , i guess i will go to bestbuy after and shove up 40$ for 13' cable.

Don't go to best buy for overpriced cables!

»www.monoprice.com has real high quality cables for great prices. Sure you'll have to wait until they get in, so hang on to those double set of RCA cables to hold you over until the good ones come in. Who knows, maybe the local office will give you better cables? Good luck, and let us know what box they are giving out!

No! Don't buy them at BB! Comcast should give you component cables.

If you get the newer HD boxes spring for an HDMI cable (if your TV supports it) from monoprice.com. Cheap and it's good quality.

OK ... will do. What method should I take to try and get the cables? Any advice to really let me have them if they do?

Just ask them?

I remember when I had my first HD box installed they gave me component cables, no questions asked.

So everything worked out. Got just your regular 5100 still. This time it doesn't have comcasts logo in the left corner. When I asked for a component cable, she gave me a whole 'self install kit' bag which was nice. Now I have more spare cable then needed. I turned the box on and it gave me the dl message, so it's probably doing a firmware upgrade or something now.
