| [ Express] New Scientific Atlanta Modem Old Belkin Router
Ok I just got the new Modem from rogers. Before, I could connect to the Internet using my router, now I can't seem to get pass the Belkin router setup screen. It can see the router, but for some reason it can't access the Internet. I am using two ethernet straight thru cable. And I am using the correct cable that the router company supplied (blue cable goes from free router port to modem - grey cable from pc to router wan).
But the screen that pops up asks me for such things as IP address, default gateway, and dns server. It never asked me this in the past. And the Internet light is blinking on the router.
Any help or directions would be nice. |

| OK ... Power down your modem for at least 10 minutes. DO a factory RESET on your router.
Then go through the router setup wizard. Have the modem clone your PC's MAC address.
When you're done check that you have the latest firmware for that Belkin router. There was a problem some time back where people were getting disconnected by Rogers because the Belkin routers would go crazy doing DHCP requests. This was fixed in a firmware upgrade. |

| Well spotted BayStBoi.
Do you have the quick setup for that router?
Here's a link to the router you probably have ... for a manual

| reply to frustrated43t34 Ok Thanks everyone, it works now.
I don't know if these steps make sense but here goes. I ran the quick setup with the grey cat5 cable in pc ethernet and grey in modem. Then I switched over so that that grey in router and grey in modem with blue cable in free port and blue in pc ethernet. After that I went through the quick setup but it failed again (it asked for static ip and etc).
So then I went to »192.168.2.1/ (Setup homepage) and clicked "Clone Computer's MAC Address"
After that everything worked fine.
Thanks sbrook |
