More for a lack of choices of unrestricted, quality, content.
If these "pirates" who downloaded Mp3s actually had drm-free choices back several years ago when P2P "took off" in the late 90s, then there may not be so many "pirates" today.
I believe some people pirate just to download the individual music they want and to transfer it to their own portable devices without restrictions. DRM is a killer thats for sure. However, I believe some people pirate just so they don't have to pay for something they want. I know a lot of people who fall into this category. A lot more than the people who hate DRM, but I am sure that varies from person to person. |

| reply to Nightfall Reason people download is because its a lot faster and easier and cheaper to just go to a p2p client then download what they want and listen to it like 10-30 seconds later. Why drive all the way to the mall for just one song you like that they don't have on amazon that is only 128kbps. They had a chance way back with napster to convert people to buyers but they missed the train. Only thing i see working is having ads in the songs to pay for the artists or like 15-25 cents a song. 99cents to me is still a lot of money once you add it up. I'm sure a lot more people would like it that cheap. You can posepone the advancement of technology like p2p but sooner or later it will be mainstream. Its inevitable, some middle men will just have to die before it happens like the riaa and mpaa. |
