Re: [Cable HSI] Mediacom MAX 20/2 said by pabster:I haven't heard that plans have changed. AFAIK, February remains the target for 20/2. I'm sorry to say there is no testing of a 20/2 meg service, nor will any launch of said be occurring in Feb or any time in the near future. |

 | Well that just flat sucks. Was hoping I could stay with Mediacom but looks like I'll be jumping ship to FIOS. |

I'd love to correct them directly. My guess is somebody is just making something up but I don't know.
I might regret this but I'll ask, what upload speed would you like me to consider, and for which level of service? |

elios join:2005-11-15 Springfield, MO 2 edits | 15/2 it would put max on par with FiOS
if you really want to be nice 16/2 just becouse its nice number in thoery would give 2MB/s down which is more then i could ever use the down now is fine
its the up that chokes even another 512Kbps would be nice when you have 3-4 people in one home that use the net all the time 1Mbps of up gets used fast |
|
 | reply to BAINCH 1 mb/s for standard service and 2 mb/s for Max users AT LEAST. The 512 gets used up considering that you only get about 300k really, and for max my best is 900k, although 90% is a passing grade it's still unacceptable. |

The only reason why people need such a high upload are to run servers and P2P.
P2P, no matter how someone tries to make it look, is a piracy app. That's why ISPs are so nuts about usage caps and upload speeds.
If you want to run a server, you might as well go on and get a T3 or so. Stop trying to use a residential service for your hosting needs, and get some better support while you're at it.
While I'm not familiar in-depth with Mediacom's AUP, I can't really say whether or not they allow servers. But there's no real reason why people clamor for higher upload with the exception of what I've previously stated.
Of course, this is all my opinion, and YMMV. -- Jesus Saves! Ask me how! Only Team Starfire spams more than me! |

WHO the hell said anything about servers?
Do the math, a family of 4 computers all gaming at the same time equals huge upload speeds, what if I want to connect and play Flight Sim X with a friend and host the game? That's not against policy, I can do that, and the added upload helps.
I see upload as so important because everytime you try to access a webpage you use your upload, everytime I connect to a game and use ventrillo or team speak I use my upload. |

I do not run any servers, nor do I use P2P. I just do a lot of work from home. |

| reply to BAINCH Realistically I think 15/2 would be good, but most areas cannot handle it last i knew.
Where I was we were having daily contention issues knocking phones out for days or weeks while waiting on the NOC to make a decision... Nobody would pull the trigger...
but that was awhile ago and i'm sure everythings fixed now... |
