| Bakersfield,CA Wireless Access
I have been looking around for some Mobile Broadband access locally, however I can't seem to find anyone who is actively using either of the main offerings (Sprint/Verizon) - is there anyone who passes thru Bakersfield,CA and it's surrounding areas or lives in Bakersfield,CA who utilize either Sprint/Verizon's Mobile Broadband who can give me some opinions of the service?
Any feedback on service quality is greatly appreciated! |

1 edit | Are you looking to use it just for occasional access, or full time? I come down (I live in Redwood Valley, up here in Mendocino County in NW CA) to Bakersfield every so often on Amtrak's San Joaquin's, and have found Verizon's service to be excellent all up and down the Central Valley. I can't comment on Sprint, as they don't have service up here so I've never had their products. |

| Occasional access / Backup - I have been using T-Mobile's GPRS/EDGE network for a year or two now, but at the end of the day I'd like a more 'robust' offering.
I have read mixed reports on both Sprint and Verizon in general, but as of late more and more folks seem to be saying stay away from Sprint, and yet they offer service in this region it seems - just trying to get real area folks feedback, so I appreciate your notes. |

| reply to mrcbrown I have tested Sprint's EVDO here, and it was GREAT.
I feel that is is much better than AT&T's 3G network, here in town.
Also, Sprint seems to have more EVDO coverage, than AT&T right now.
Hope that helps a little.

| It does indeed, Sprint was my first choice because they are clear on "Unlimited" use, where Verizon seems to hint at unlimited, but also states in the fine print "5GB" - not that I think my mobile usage would ever go that far, but I don't want to get stuck with some insane overage if it does.
I went to a local verizon store this morning, and hit the wall of "Oh a Mac... hrmm.. well.. hrmm..." I know sprint has a view OSX compatible devices, but of course as usual most providers seem to phear the mac I suppose I could always boot XP and make em happy |

| reply to mrcbrown Sprint called me a few months back trying to sell me on a computer connection card. I was told that you DO NOT need a sprint signal and that it'll work on ANY providers connection.
I found that hard to believe, maybe it's true. I didn't take them up on the offer.
I will say, if they use the same network as their Vision network, stay away, far away. -- This Space for Rent... |

They are a no contract, full on data service (Partnered with Sprint)
Also,
Sprint data can roam on Verizon's network if needed.
