[WCG-UD] Switching to BOINC - Timeline Draws Closer for UD

I have to admit that I preferred the older and familiar UD client when we first started this run, but I am so glad I made the switch.

BOINC has been very stable for me on all my machines and if you are running the new multiple core processors it's awesome.

And no, lil' didn't smack me upside the head to say that.

Yeah the old UD agent was so solid, but it was outdated and inefficient with today's multicore systems.

Boinc is pretty good, though sometimes i have to restart a stuck agent.

It's hard to change.. I do kind of miss that little blue pill. But BOINC is really a big improvement.

That I understand - It is hard to change from something that has been part of your life here for so long. That is why I was hesitant to switch when we started this project.

BOINC really has been so much smoother. I have not had any stalled or stuck agents recently and the ability to load a few days work is a real plus.

I suppose if one was clever enough one could figure out how to substitute that little blue pill for the BOINC tray icon.

If you look in your boinc directory you will see a sub directory called skins. The version of boinc released by WCG already has their skin installed. It would be easy for someone to change the skin.

Looks like the date is now May 31st for the last UD work units to be sent.

A: The distribution of the software to be able to register new UD agent clients has ceased. The target migration completion and ending of all work distribution to UD agent clients will be May 31, 2008. Last completed Results will be accepted from the UD agent until June, 30, 2008.

But that's ok..they will crunch till they can't crunch no more.

5 more days until there are no new UD tasks.

Still getting & sending new wu's on 2 remote crunchers - guess will just run'm till I have time to get to those boxes.

Message on both still states June 30th, 2008.

Unstickying..as I believe most of our membership is aware by now that WCG has migrated to BOINC for our projects

I could go for adding more days in June, if it meant we subtracted days in February.
