mackieg4 Premium join:2003-03-24 Riverside, CA | When will DSLExtreme have faster speeds
in Riverside, CA area. Right now 6 meg is the fastest. I know it depends on AT&T. But any word on faster speeds? Maybe 10 meg? |

join:2001-01-26 Valencia, CA | 6Mbps is the fastest ADSL service that runs over AT&T lines. 10Mbps runs on AT&T's VDSL Uverse service... but that's not available for resellers. -- Canada = Hollywood North |

@whirlpool.com | reply to mackieg4 You could go Charter, they have a 10Mbps service, but be warned, the ping is about double that of DSL on the same servers. |

| reply to mackieg4 Well I'm looking to possibly go to Road Runner Cable just because of it's new 15/2, is DSL ever in San Diego, Ca 92128 ever going to up in speed within the next 6 months? It's really lagging behind the rest atm. Well any answers would be appreciated before the move. |

| I enjoyed DSLX's excellent service for a long time, but frankly, cable's speeds have become too fast to overlook. AT&T's 6mbps DSL is more like 5mbps after ATM overhead is factored in. My 10mbps cable service consistently downloads at 1.2MB/sec at any time day or night, just about double what I saw with DSL.
If you have 15mbps cable as an option, it'll be about 3 times faster than AT&T's best DSL offering. Cable reliability and service quality varies a lot by area. Your best bet is to just give the cable a shot and see how it works out for you, there's no contract involved with Road Runner. If the reliability isn't there you can always order DSL. That was my strategy. I've stuck with the cable for 6 months and it's been absolutely wonderful. |

@dslextreme.com | reply to mackieg4 DSLX probably can't do much if the telco doesn't want to upgrade.
I remember dslx had some sort of adsl2/adsl2+ trail way back in 2004 and testers were getting 20+Mb through the copper.
I wonder what happened to that... |

| reply to mackieg4 I used to use Comcast, which was a 6MB cable connection. I switched to Metrofi (1.5MB WiFi) for a year and then to DSLExtreme (1.5MB DSL, renewed at 3MB). Both of them consistently gave me faster download speeds than Comcast when downloading stuff in real life (as opposed to a speed test downloading something). I also didn't notice any difference in browsing speeds. So I'm wary of relying too much on just the line speed to gauge actual performance. |

| reply to mackieg4 I am very confident that we will have higher speed package in the near future. I am currently reviewing a new contract for Verizon's fiber network and anticipate rolling that out in the next few months. We are also working with Covad to offer ADSL2+ services through their network.
Based on being AT&T and Verizon's second largest wholesale DSL partner in the nation, we have a good relationship and a lot of leverage with them. Though some of the new AT&T products are not currently available in the wholesale channel I anticipate they will eventually open those up to DSLExtreme.
One thing to note is that although we will always push to offer the highest possible speed packages, when comparing packages it is important to look at factors other than speed. If the cable company offers you a 10 meg package but the speeds aren't consistent and they are throttling your traffic it isn't beneficial to you.
Thanks -- George General Manager DSL Extreme Will work for reviews. |

| Well they aren't throttling speed just yet in my community. Regardless I'll be patient for the next 2 months before I truly decide on anything hehe. The issue with me is my online business in San Diego, ca 92128 requires a lot of video work so we're always uploading to and fro and every single byte we can get on the upload helps. We care much more about upload then download, anyways do you know if they are working on anything near me? Thanks GM
I'm signing up my friend on DSLX from Dialup shocked he still uses that stuff |

| I don't have a specific date at this time. We are working with Covad closely to get it launched as soon as possible. I don't have specific pricing at this time.
I will let you know once we have more details.

| reply to dslx_gm So George, when this happens.. the problem that I have re: distance from ATT&T office, will no longer exist because we will be using Fiber Optic Cable..that has nothing to do with ATT?
Is that what you are reviewing now?
......because unless I am able to use FO cable my speed will never get faster.
Thanks George,
Steve |

dslx_gm Premium,VIP join:2002-12-26 Winnetka, CA | For ADSL2+ services through the Covad distance would still be a limiting factor.
For Fiber service through the Verizon network it would not be. The service would of course need to be available in your area. |

»covad.com/ Of course there residential ADSL prices are nuts imo. The upload speed which is all i really need isn't ever upgraded lol. So we'll just have to wait on Verizon for the time being :| |
