Don't forget that the 2wires have something of a reputation around these parts. Even though the Netopia modems are sold for less, people still want the slightly more expensive 2wire modems. Assuming they don't want it for the wireless, this should be indicative of that reputation asserting itself.

EDIT: Out of random curiosity, what is the MSRP/retail street price/wholesale price for the 2wires new? As in, how much should/are they being sold for new elsewhere? I realize that 2wires have never been sold at retail, but it'd be nice to have some sort of indication as to what they actually cost new.

Frankly, the chances are slim, but we're working on a few things.

I don't want to post too many details here because it might create a situation as before where a competitor comes in and buys out 4000 and there's nothing left for us suddenly when we go to restock.

We were buying much smaller quantities, more frequently. Makes perfect sense from a cashflow perspective, but clearly that was a mistake.

We weren't getting them from SBC or 2Wire, but rather a place here in Ontario. When we started selling to non-subscribers in January, we failed to realize the opportunity and just how popular it will become, so continued buying in little chunks frequently instead of grabbing everything we could get our hands on right away.

We were thinking of moving away from 2Wires entirely around January 2009, but didn't expect to have to do it right now.

Anyway, lesson learned ;)

But stay tuned...I'm working on it.

I just wanted to thank Erik and his team at Caneris. I took delivery of two 2Wire modems today. The staff were very responsive to my order and kept me advised when there was a delay in shipping. Both modems are in great physical shape and the one I'm testing now seems to work well. It also seems to be slightly faster than my Speedtouch. :)

hello, I recently purchased one of these modems from caneris, I have tried it out with my ISP acanac and it managed to sync yesterday however I had no internet. It told me that it "Could not find an ATM switch". I disabled the ATM PVC search and that changed my PVC Connection to "Up" however ther was still no connection. Also for some reason, my Downstream stats were -6db with 55 attenuation which has to be wrong because the downstream with my starbridge modem is fine. Is there some special settings I'm supposed to change to get it to work? or maybe a differeny keycode? My starbridge can establish a sync and connect to the internet fine. Although I have to say that I am pretty sure there is some problem with my line, sometimes it takes 15-20 minutes to establish a sync.

That happened to me once when I first got the 2700HG, however the modem had been on for a lot less than 4 days. Right now, after 9 days since last reset, my modem is still going strong. I do not think this is related to time since reset. Also, I just went to MDC/Advanced/Detail Log. As you can see, it works fine.

My conclusion is that it is an intermittent bug of some sort. I am not particularly concerned about it.

Googling on that model number takes you to a different summary page, but that page references the same data sheet. (So yes, it does QoS.)

My d-link modem from look.ca is giving me hard time. read good review about 2wire modems. I would like to buy it from Caneris rather than the ebay headach. Called but it is sunday and no one there. I will call again as the week begins.

Just bought a 2wire modem off Caneris. Delievered within 4 hrs of ordering. Tech showed up on time as promised and even called as requested. He even installed it to make sure everything was ok and provided some tips.

Modem worked right away. I tried 2 modems in the past from 2wire and they both were junk. Too many of these floating around. The good thing is that Caneris test these before sending them out and provide 180 days warranty. Hopefully, if something needs to go wrong, it will happen by then.

Also took delivery today. Very good communication from Caneris, prompt callbacks. Modem was delivered (free!) as promised, and Erik took 15 minutes on the phone to help me get up and running. Control Centre shows software version 4.25.19. My unit has the AT&T logo on the front, model number 2700HG-B. My speeds with Teksavvy are better with this modem than with my last (Broadmax!).

Thank Erik..I was the one who asked about the logo in the front of the unit. I tried 2 different ones with 2wire logo and they didnt work at all. Then i remembered about someone mentioning that CC carries the AT&T logo and wondered if those had better chance of working.

I might be in for one of the modems. I will wait for your response on the difference between the 2 models.

The logo and model number suffix (B is for SBC/AT&T) may affect the level of firmware which in turn may affect the functionality. See Unlocking BT 2Wire 2700HGV wireless router, e.g. firmware 4.25.19 on the B models gives more WiFi power levels but does not support MAC address filtering and other features.
