[cable] 4 different routers 4 different problems. please help!

1st router - microsoft brand(forgot the model - trashed):randomly dropped the connection until i restarted it, randomly gave very poor ping(400-800)

2nd router - linksys befsx41: worked fine for a week, then started giving packetloss. i would try to reinstall and it says the router cannot be found 90% of the time, after an unspecified number of computer and router restarts will detect the router and install. after a random amount of time of working fine will start giving 5-10% packetloss. tried various firmware versions, no help.

3rd router - d-link ebr-2310: worked fine for a week, now gives 10-20% packetloss(restarting everything has no effect)

4th router - dynex dx-e402: works fine for first half an hour, then starts giving high ping(800+) until i restart the modem(not the router)

i've only thrown away the first router, i would greatly appreciate help on getting either the dynex or linksys to work properly(i'm going to return the d-link for refund)
