decxPremium join:2002-06-07 Vancouver, BC | reply to Anonymous_ Nice. I see somebody's taking hints from Apple's AEBS and the old Orinoco in trying to hide the antenna. Let's hope Linksys take on that doesn't impair range too much.
And since it's Broadcom base it'll probably be gotten to work with DD-WRT pretty quickly, though it'll most definitly be the neutered version. |

Linksys no doubt thinks it looks "sleek", but the WRT54G looked like a no-nonsense practical design similar to professional products -- I have it on a cabinet shelf along with my cable modem and some other stuff and it looks cool. The new design just shrieks "consumer junk!", even if the unit technically might be quite good. Although the hidden, non-replaceable antenna does not bode well. procto join:2004-10-02 Jasper, AL | Is this the same router as the new WRT160N router it looks exactly like it?
the 130N version lookwise is different
regards procto |

decxPremium join:2002-06-07 Vancouver, BC | No it's not, By the name the WRT54G2 is 802.11g only while the 160N is a 2.4GHz Draft N router
It looks like Linksys is replacing the blue Linky casing they've used for the last few years with the internal antenna black glob of plastic case we're talking about. In addition of the 54G2 and the 160N, the 310N is also in the same form factor. |

The WRT54G2 v1 is almost as ugly as Netgear's redesigned products (not the purple box-like products of yesteryear). |

lmacmil join:2001-01-26 South Bend, IN | I noticed last week that all the big box stores dropped the price of the WRT54G by $5 (to $45). Do you suppose they will phase it out soon? What about the GL version? |

The WRT54G2 v1 is almost as ugly as Netgear's redesigned products (not the purple box-like products of yesteryear). Netgear's recent stuff doesn't look bad (IMO better than the 54G2), but it's no where near as good as the old blue metal box style they used in the 90's and early 2000's (like the amazing RT314). |

procto join:2004-10-02 Jasper, AL | reply to Anonymous_ The chipset is intel IXP422 which is 266 Mghz.
The WRT160N router uses the same chipset and has 32 Ram as well.
What the difference between the WRT54G2 v1 and WRT160N routers from Linksys the advanced wireless on the 160N other than than that look the same. |

it's WRT51AB 32MB RAM 4 Flash(very hard to find) but i am hopeing to install an b/g card (it has Dual mini PCI slots) and installing DD-WRT via Jtag
it should work with DD-wrt it's all Broadcom Besides the A card
but they do have an WRT55AG (it's an wrt54g with A support) -- Ω? |
