First of all, Apple isn't the only vendor that has this occasional issue, I have seen plenty of PC Laptops in Best Buy that also have cramped USB ports and poorly designed headphone jacks so let's not pretend Apple is the bad guy here.
Have you ever heard of a USB extension cable?
