Gimmie gimmie gimmie

Residential broadband has gone from non-existance to necessity in 10 years?

Oh brother. The whiners are looking for low latency broadband since satellite internet is nearly universally available. At my remote property, no less than 15 miles from the local CO I had DRS and it worked great. Sorry if Verizon and Comcast aren't charitable enough to lose billions deploying in BFE just to support your P2P piracy and FPS gaming habits.

You whiners who MUST HAVE low latency broadband more than electricity and water should have thought about that before picking where you live.

Normal people have considerations when buying a house or renting an apartment including proximity to work, school, freeways, the crime rate, etc. You should have pulled your head out of your ass and put low latency broadband on that list if you needed it that badly.

Meanwhile, go start a WISP instead of bitching about others not giving you low latency service fast enough. That is what my neighbors did.

What's next for you guys? You going to move next to an airport then bitch about the noise?

I'll gladly stop calling for rural deployment assistance when every city stops getting Federal funding for all of their projects.

Absolutely. Return everyone's tax money, abolish the USF, farm aid, and all the rob from the rich-give to the poor bullcrap and let communities buy their own stuff via local bond measures.

You would be surprised what people can afford to do when they're not working Mon, Tues and Wed for daddy gov't.

Don't forget the rob from the middle class to give to corporate welfare money.

What welfare money? Do you consider your mortgage interest deduction "welfare"? You mean Farm Aid? USF? Absolutely, all of it should go.

Corporations don't pay taxes, their customers do. All high corporate taxes do is drive business out of the country and make the products of those that stay more expensive.

There should be no corporate taxes at all and you would see investment here in the US and job growth beyond anyone's imagination.

See my post above about private contractors in Iraq. I think it is safe to say our military wants to win the war and come home. The private contractors there have a vested interest in the war remaining a stalemate.

Just curious if you're getting paid to shill quell anti-corporate sentiment? If you're not, then you should strongly consider it. Your lips are probably really chapped by now from all the sucking. You're doing an outstanding job.

You hippies are too funny. Oh yeah, taxpayers who don't think they need to be shelling out hundreds of billions to fund low latency broadband to people living in the middle of nowhere just to support their gaming and piracy habits are shilling for corporations. Sorry, that's shilling for Joe Taxpayer who is sick and tired of slaving through June to pay their gigantic tax bills just to see socialist schoolgirls set it on fire with their never ending corruption and do-gooder thievery.

Sorry if I don't support your noble philanthropic principles of getting bunched panties expecting everything for free.

Why don't you start up an ISP and deploy? If it's so profitable STFU and do it.

But no, that's not part of the socialist ideal. These Liberal Arts asswipes would rather raise their Crayons in anger and blame everyone else for their failures in life.

Waaaaahhhhh, evil corporations won't give me everything I want for free. Waaaahhhhhh. Evil corporations won't lose billions so I can seed torrents 24/7 waaaaaahhhhhh.

How about this, put down the roach, stop wearing socks with sandles, take a shower and quit expecting everyone else to carry you through life. Pay your own way for a change.

It's socialist whiners like you that have corporations fleeing to greener pastures, taking millions of great paying jobs with them. Thanks buddy.

You are proof crack doesn't smoke itself.

Would you give up your paved roads and electricity too? How about all highways and airports? Want to see the $3000 plane ticket? or $20 per mile highway? Subsidizes are essential to any country that doesn't live out off the resources of a jungle/forest/personal farm.

LOL, comparing low latency broadband to paved roads and electricity. What's next, you going to compare it to food and water? Holy crap, what a stretch.

Sorry to disappoint, I pay my electricity bill including hefty 'demand' fees which FULLY SUPPORTS our local PRIVATE electricity company and their energy suppliers and hell yes I would go for a PRIVATE toll system rather than pay state taxes and thousands a year in California license tag fees.

As it stands now I pay thousands and thousands for a failed road system and still have to pay hundreds a month in tolls to the completely inept OCTA. Other local PRIVATE toll roads charge 1/8 the cost per mile compared to the corrupt OCTA. Our local 91 Expresslanes took 10 years to get to $4.35 for 10 miles when it was under private ownership. It only took the Orange County Transit Authority 3 years after buying out the company with over a hundred million taxpayer dollars (promising lower tolls by the way) to raise that rate to $10 ONE WAY. So not only do taxpayers get to fund the purchase, but now they see their tolls more than double. Awesome service. This is in addition to nearly .18 per gallon in excise taxes to the state. Gov'ts are the most corrupt and wasteful entities on the planet. They endlessly waste money then come and steal more from taxpayers. Speaking of gas, people bitch about Exxon-Mobil's profits when they make about .09 profit per gallon of gas. You know the Federal gov't makes more than .18 profit on that same gallon in excise taxes and same with the State of California. The state and Federal gov't make 4X the profit on a gallon of gas as Exxon-Mobil and they didn't do a DAMN thing for it. And that doesn't' include the 8.25% sales taxes the state gets on every gallon. The thieving government and the liberal do-gooders always looking to spend my money can drop dead.

And yeah, we should also stop bailing out the airlines. It's their mismanagement that has them needing bail outs every other year. If we would let some of them fail, the rest of the industry could recover.

Low latency broadband isn't an essential service by any stretch of the imagination. Everyone got along just fine in 1996 when there was no such thing as residential broadband. In fact I would argue most Americans were better off in 1996 than they are in 2006.

Quit expecting everyone else to fund your gaming and piracy. If you want low latency broadband that badly, move. In the meantime STFU call WildBlue or start a WISP.

The business grade cable connection would never pay for itself. A T1 barly. Also there is the "bribing the town mayor to get franchise to attach to telephone poles", and then the fact that the electric and telephone company haven't maintained the poles, and they all look like bananas, and when you approach them to put a AP on the pole, they will demand you pay to bring the pole upto spec on your dime just because they have something that you want (right to attach), but nobody forces them to keep the poles maintained and they don't fix/inspect the poles ever themselves until one snaps and cuts telephone/electric service. Other things they will demand is to be paid to relocate the lines (raise lower), rerun the their wires (droops too low or not enough slack), install taller pole, its a field day for them when someone wants to use a pole.
