| [Connectivity] Wierd routing / DNS probs every evening
For the last week, every evening around 7:00 PM my comcast smb cable service (static IP's, Portland, OR area) stops passing traffic to and from various sites like Google, Yahoo, etc. DNS lookups produce the correct IP, but no traffic flows. The only way I can get connectivity back is to VPN to a remote hub in non-comcast territory, and then use that hubs routing / DNS services. Any idea what the heck is going on here?? |

sounds something like a IP lease issue, but with statics you shouldnt have that issue.... |

| reply to Farfbits I have static IP's. Currently, I can surf to some sites (www.yahoo.com) but not others (www.google.com). The problem appears to be with the Comcast DNS server that points to an incorrect IP, or maybe with one of the edge-server boxes that goes off line or changes every day at the same time (around 6:00 pm). When I vpn into a non-comcast server, everything works properly. |

The problem appears to be with the Comcast DNS server that points to an incorrect IP, If you want to eliminate DNS issues as a possible cause, try temporarily hard coding some alternate publicly accessible DNS servers such as the OpenDNS offerings:

4.2.2.1 thru 4.2.2.6. also perform quite well.
You should also post some trace routes to the sites that you can't access when you are experiencing this issue. |
