Airport Extreme QOS/Packet Prioritization?

Does anyone know if the Airport Extreme has support for QOS and/or packet prioritization? A friend of mine is considering getting one for his upcoming new home network and I'm not finding too much info via Apple's site or Google.

Thanks in advance!

No it doesn't. I wish it does because it's full OS X under the hood AFAIK and it should be something Apple could do fairly easily. I think because it's marketed as easy they won't ever put it in there though. I haven't found any 3rd party firmware for it either.

Ya, this is the primary reason I haven't gotten one which is too bad because it is otherwise a great device, especially the new one with the Hard Drive in it.

But basically I've relegated my old WRT54G to router only duties because of QoS services for VOIP. All other devices are switched gig and off another WAP.

This indication that the AEBS runs OS X- did you see this in writing someplace? If so, do you have a link to the article(s)?

I thought I read it somewhere when it first came out.

Is this a VoIP or ULA related question?

No it isn't. I just wondered if it had support for it like many of the Linksys routers do. My current Belkin has support, so I was just wondering if the Airport Extreme does.

So you don't actually need it... just curious?

I have a UMA BlackBerry (that doesn't work with the Airport because of the lack of WMM/QoS).

Well, the person who wanted to get it will probably have a lot of wireless traffic of different types and the Linksys he was looking at (forget which model at the moment) had support for it. He has a mixed environment of Vista, Xbox, OS X, and in brief moments of lunacy, Linux. He will be doing things ranging from VoIP and MP3 streaming to online databases and video chats which all could be occurring at the same time on different platforms. In this environment he felt it might've been best to have some kind of prioritization going on. No one likes to get fragged in Halo because someone else is making a Skype call.

So it's for a friend? Consider an outboard QoS product... »www.hawkingtech.com/products/pro···odID=216

Well, he's probably going to be getting Time Capsule so that decision has been pretty much made up for him. I suppose that if it becomes an issue he could look into that. Thanks for the suggestion!

The product I mentioned would work great with a Time Capsule... it doesn't matter.
