Whats the big deal?

When i first got DSL through AT&T (then SBC) I was paying 39.95 for 1.5 service. The prices were cut several times until 1.5 is what, 24.95?

Even increasing by $5.00 per month, it is still cheaper than it was.

I have no complaints over the company and am a very satisfied customer.

I was paying $17.99 for the 3.0 service which will now cost $30, that's nearly double and they have no market reason to raise the rates since profits have been very strong and costs have been going down.

That was an introductory offer on a one-year contract. I started on 1536/128 for $39.99; at the time an introductory offer. After a year, the price went up to $49.99. Two years later I found out that I could call in and re-rate the service at $19.99. They raised the upload a couple of times, as well, first to 256kbps, then to 384kbps. Then I was offered Pro (3008/512) for $17.99 on a one year contract. That price was only good for one year, after which it went up to $24.99. So, in the end, I will still be paying $10 a month less than when I first signed up, and $20 a month less than their old regular Internet price, and for double the speed. The prices for DSL in the other ILEC regions (Embarq, Qwest, Verizon) seem to be about the same as what we will be paying after this price hike.

I think we may have become spoiled...

SPOILED!!!!...you have to be kidding, we are being gouged as AT&T reaps HUGE profits and refuses to upgrade their network.

AT&T promised 100mbps to everyone by 2009 !!!!!!!!!!!

Only Verizon offers Fios which crushes DSL and cable.

Eh? We pay less for DSL than anybody else with any other provider. They must be really gouging their subscribers.

Define, "HUGE"? How wet is "wet"? How cold is "cold"? How huge is "HUGE"?

Only Verizon will ever offer FiOS; it is their name for a service product delivered over FTTP.

You should be paying $15 for that tier and for $40 you should be able to get 20/5.

HUGE = 63 Billion in revenue and 7.3 billion in profit after taxes. Why does a company making 7.3 billion in profit need to raise prices when their cost are going down????????

I'm aware Fios is a market name for Fiber to the premise, in new suburbs AT&T uses fiber for U-verse instead of those big ugly boxes they need to build for DSL feed U-verse. The HD channel quality is really really bad, to much compression btw.

AT&T needs to bite the bullet and tell their investors to shove it like Verizon did and start deploying fiber everywhere.
