Still Cheaper

Still much cheaper than Comcast. Yes, I know someone will say something like Comcast offers 8,000 or 6,000 download speeds. Baloney. I'm downloading off the usenet right now using 15 different connections and I'm only getting 800KB/s. I'm lucky to ever use more than 2,000 for downloads unless I'm doing a speed test. Comcast should offer more upload speed, that's their problem. At least with at&t, they do seem to let you use more of your promised bandwidth than Comcast does and even with a price hike they are about half the price of Comcast who restricts your true download speeds.

Here in good old Ellensburg, WA the local phone company got taken over by Fairpoint. DSL costs $39.95 for 768kbps/128kpbs, and $69.95 for 1.5mbps/.5mps plus you have to pay for a regular voice line at a minimum of $29.95 (plus taxes.)

Doesn't appear they have any interest in raising speeds or lowering prices, or upgrading to newer technologies.

If they cut their prices in half and also doubled the speed, they still wouldn't be very good.

What I can't figure out is why they ran something like 12 big fat fiber optic cables to Selah, where they also run the local phones. I would guess they have enough fiber to run the country - to connect 2 small towns. Maybe they are planning on connecting us locally with 100gbit service between each and every house

I'm only getting 800KB/s. Which is pretty much what you get with a 8Mb/s connection when you subtact IP overhead. I think you are confusing bits and bytes.

Don't like the lack of competition???

That's what you get for sending liberals to Washington!

Sad part of this is, BOTH parties are now liberal and haven't a clue about business issues.

We are heading down the socialist path, which will cause the country to fail badly.

Oh well...at least we had a good 230 some odd years.
