| If you offer unlimited bandwidth, then why the hell shouldnt they expect to use it? I dont give a rats ass if it degrades anyone elses service, thats the ISP's problem. As an Internet ServiceProvider, you are paid to provide service. What service you provide is up to you. If its advertised as unlimited though, be prepared for people to use it limitlessly.
If you want to offer me 6/1 unlimited service, then whther I use it for 2 hrs a week or 24/7 doesnt matter its what I am paying for. And whats wrong with leaving it on all night? Do you sit in front of your computer every second during a long transfer/encode/render/install? I've let windows update run all night before, does that make me a bad person (besides for being a windows user)?
If you dont want people to use it 24/7, then institute caps and clearly state so in your TOS.
I'm tired of ISP's whining that "teh piratz r runing r intarwebz". Is it really that hard to limit the number of connections one user can make at a time? Or what about, I dunno, maybe (in your case ftth, with only 1000 subscribers) giving the offender a notice and maybe tell them that if they just limited thier number of allowed connections in BT that all would be cool? I mean, if some asshat decided to send flyers to all your customers telling them that if they actually use what they are paying for, they'll get banned, and you loose 100 customers over it, thats 10% of your business. You being a smaller ISP stand to lose more by subscriber churn than the big boys do.
Copyrright infrengment is not theft. |
 | reply to ftth_freak I am getting tired of all of the liberal geeks that think because they pay a few buck to "the big bad cable company", they should have unlimited bandwidth usage even if it damages or degrades the service to others. Well, if it wasn't for those so called "liberal geeks", you wouldn't have a market for your product because everyone would be happy on dialup. Might want to brush up on how the internet works and get in touch with the reality of the changing internet. |
