| 2 antivirus programs
Are there any 2 antivirus programs i can use together? Currently using AVG free. Sent an e-mail with yahoo, it says it found and cleaned virus. After scanning with AVG, Norton online and Trendmicro online, no viruses found. I'd like to have AVG free and some other antivirus to make sure i'm protected. Any recommendations? |

| I will defer to the experts here, but it's really not a good idea to have two antivirus programs, even if one is only for on-demand scanning. You may get lucky and have no issues, but it seems to me you'd be better off with a single antivirus product and something like Windows Defender. AVG and Defender using the advanced member setting would be a pretty good setup. |

join:2001-02-21 | reply to ipatovo There's Bitdefender that's on demand only for the free one. I think I've read that some people on this forum install AVs, but disable auto protect, and use it as an on demand scanner. I could be incorrect though. |

| reply to ipatovo You could try AVL Mini, it does not have any resident protection features. It's just for on demand scanning for viruses, trojans, etc. in case your AV misses something.
It is compatiable with your current AV, no resident protection, no conflicts.
It works very well, I had AVG free awhile back and it missed a new virus that had come out and AVL detected and deleted it.
Here is the link for it... »www.antiy.net/product/avl/index.htm
Read the entire page to find out how you can get it free. |

Absolutely a bad idea to run two resident anti virus programs, that can cause all kinds of performance problems.
One resident anti virus program in conjunction with online virus scans, such as TrendMicro, BitDefender Online or Kasperksy would be fine. -- 10,483 DEADLY TERROR ATTACKS SINCE 9/11~~TEAM DISCOVERY Can't feel you anymore, don't need you anymore, don't believe you anymore, I don't need you anymore

One thought here:
You have one A/V on your computer and then you have another one inside your brain called common sense. There is no reason to have 2 on a computer. |

| My suggestion on this is to have one resident AV app, then use one of the on-demand scanners (Symantec, Kaspersky, Eset, TrendMicro, etc. all have one).
Having a second app to occasionally check isn't a bad idea, but you don't want to have two running concurrently. Using the online scanners helps to avoid this. |

| reply to ipatovo You can try NOD32 it seems to be one of the more effective scanners. Just finished replacing an office of 8 PC that used to have Symantec AntiVirus with NOD32 every PC but 1 had a hidden virus SAV did not detect. -- 09:F9:11:02:9D:74:E3:5B:D8:41:56:C5:63:56:88:C0 |

| reply to ipatovo ClamAV (free) is on demand only, and will work with other AV's. You might experiment with Avira or Avast as either of these free AV's may be installed as on demand only scanners. -- Only those defenses are good, certain and durable, which depend on yourself alone and your own ability. -The Prince, by Niccolo Machiavelli. |

Seems (and is effective) and is compatible with an onboard realtime AV. |

| reply to sjoeii If both realtime features are running in the background at the same time, then yes.
Like I said, I use avast and antivir at the same time, but since antivir is not running in the background, my computer runs fast.
Why two av's? Well, I use it as a backup. One time I had four antivirus installed on my pc with no problems. avast, avg, clamwin, and antivir.
