Good connection and signal but no web pages loading?

Hi,

I bought a D-link DKT-710 router, as well as a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop the other day, and I set up the router, installed the drivers etc. I get an excellent connection, and the laptop says that I am connected to my SSID and I have "Local and Internet connection. I am using the wireless internet adapter that came with the laptop, not the D-link USB adapter.

Now, as both were new, both, I assume, were set up to their default settings. When I ran a diagnostic on the connection on the »192.168.1.1 site, it says that Ping ISP Default Gateway failed, and Ping preferred DNS server also has. The other day, when I pinged 'google.com' in cmd, it had sent 4 packets, and received 4, now its 2 and 2.

I was wondering what the problem was? Or can offer me any kind of help?

First, that D-LINK kit is sold in the UK, not in the USA,
therefore, you might have trouble finding people
who know about it. D-LINK's support is mainly
USA-products based.

The DKT-710 is an Internet gateway, with integrated DSL
modem/ router/ wireless and also, a USB wireless adaptor
peripheral.

There should be no trouble connecting ... as the modem
and router are all-in-one.

If you can't browse the internet, there are several
possibilities.

The first, is to confirm that you can actually
surf hard-wired into the DLINK device, using a cat-5e
patch chord in 1 of the 4 ports.

If successful, you should disable the local area connection,
and enable the wireless one.

Also, do not use both the integrated wireless of
the DELL at the same time as the DLINK wireless USB
adaptor is plugged into the laptop. DELLs often
have built-in wireless ...to get it started, you
would press the antenna or wireless key on your keyboard.
Do not plug the DLINK USB wireless adaptor to the laptop
if the laptop already has wireless support.

Next, I would look at whether security is turned on
in the DKT-710 , such as WPA PSK, or WEP, etc, or
MAC filtering, etc. Turn off all WEP, WPA, MAC filters
to get started with the wireless.

If you can't get this done, use a paperclip, hold
it inside the reset button of the DKT-710 while it's
turned on for 10 seconds, and it will reset factory
settings on the DKT-710. You would then re-configure
DSL login and password inside the DKT-710 for your ISP.

And re-start the wireless testing.

You may also have to run the internet connection
wizard in windows XP, for example ... so as to not
use PPPoE in XP, as it's handled in the DKT-710 already.
