Networking on Vista blows.

I don't think speeds are the problem, how about stupid things. If I switch from a wireless connection to ethernet and try to access other computers on my network, only way I can do it is manually type in the path to each PC. The XP computers have trouble picking up my vista laptop as well.

That works just fine for me (Vista Ultimate laptop + XP Pro desktop + Vista HTPC + Linux based NAS). I'm also running a WINS server on my ClarkConnect gateway / NAS box though, which would probably help resolve your issue. With WINS enabled, I'm able to connect to network shares over my VPN without having to mess with IP addresses too. The only member of my LAN and VPN that does have trouble with network shares is my Asus EeePC, but that's a whole other can of worms...

HI All
My Vista Home Premium and Belkin N1 usb adaptor do not like each other, yet the adaptor works well on XP computers.

Installing SP1 Beta brought quite an improvement - until networking and internet started hanging, requiring a re-boot to reverse the situation.

On the subject of usb adaptors, is it better to use the usb slots at the front of one's motherboard, or those at the rear?

XP vs Vista: our lesser-spec XP computer runs faster than the Vista unit, and has fewer networking hassles.
Cheers
