Re: Much Ado

The problem is, many of them have purchased new laptops with vista and office 2007.
They will seek any salvation from the bloated, slow, and under-performing machines they are straddled with.
Using equipment that is crippled by an OS has made them critical of MS and will affect their future buying decisions.

Yeah, Microsoft is really struggling since the release of Windows ME.

How many businesses used consumer-targeted WinME?
Exactly.

I have seen Vista laptops at my local Future Shop, and they run quite fast from what I can see. I'm not sure why Vista gets all the blame, and the system's manufacture gets no blame.

Re: Much Ado

Because if you load xp on those same laptops, with office xp, performance is way up. People can get work done.

Re: Much Ado

by the same token, if you load windows 98 on the same laptop, it will run much faster than xp (just using win 98 as an example).

with new software/OS comes more resources needed to run them....ie. newer/upgraded hardware...both software and hardware evolve together.

I have a brand new laptop with Vista and Office 2007 (as well as other hog apps) and this machine is just as fast as my Win XP Desktop, SP2. I like Vista and have had no problems with older accessories such as printers, scanners, etc. Running beautifully on 2GB of RAM, with ReadyBoost [great feature!]providing more oomph!

True, Vista may be more bloated, but I got rid of a lot of services HP dumps on the machine.

Re: Much Ado

Nice, I like parts of Vista, and I think it could be a good OS, once, and if, they fix some parts.
I like the media center a lot, but when I open it, other programs run slow, can't surf while commercials are going and it takes a while to get used to and find the nested functions that are behind other ones.
It needs a file menu option so you can get to everything easier.
I like and use readyboost also.
I cant use digital pcm in Vista, only works in XP. So I have to use stereo upmixed dolby pro-logic 2 on my receiver, and the same with my computer speakers since they have their own decoder, digital PCM sounds much much better.
I can do the digital pass through, but then I lose windows sounds But not in XP!
