I'm also running a WINS server on my ClarkConnect gateway / NAS box though, which would probably help resolve your issue. With WINS enabled, I'm able to connect to network shares over my VPN without having to mess with IP addresses too. The only member of my LAN and VPN that does have trouble with network shares is my Asus EeePC, but that's a whole other can of worms...
