SierraRob : Even dialup is not always an option. Where I live, about 36000 feet from the phone company's central office, a dialup connection runs at about 4800 baud if I'm lucky, and disconnects every 10 minutes or so. Cellular wireless is no-go due to line-of-sight being blocked by nearby hills. So, satellite is truly the only option. They are truly a monopoly, and they know it and behave as one.

CP81 : I'd use a library or internet cafe if there was one around. I am rural and need the broadband if I want to stay in touch (which I do). So, yes, I'd sure like to know what the other options might be for those of us in the boonies.
Thanks.
