Concord, CA

went from Comcast to Astound, made a mistake :(

I switched from Comcast to Astound simply because comcast did NOT offer higher upload speeds, maxed at 356Kbs.

The Astound plan I have is supposed to be 8Mbps down and 1.5Mbps up. When the service was first installed, it was actually pretty close 7.1Mbps down and 1.3Mbps up. I was happy. Then about 1 month passed and the service died, had a technician out and they didn't find any problem my end but later on in the evening they found a problem somewhere else? (I live in Concord CA) -- the claimed to fix it except for 3 house, yes one of those 3 houses was my house. So 3 days later without service, they come back out and say "it's fixed". Verify and sure enough, getting close to the same rates as before. All seemed good.

This week, I noticed that everything seems sluggish online, even at 1am, in fact, there is no time of day where it was good. Ran a speed test and I wast at 1.2Mbps down and 1.3Mbps up. Weird, well below what I'm supposed to be getting on the download, upload seems ok. So, time to power cycle the modem and router (linksys) -- run the test again and now I'm at 561Kbps down but up is still 1.3Mbps. It's getting worse - ugh!! So I do another power down cycle and now I'm at 265Kbps down and still 1.3Mbps up!!

WTF is going on and why is it affecting just my download speeds and upload is fine? I dare not power cycle the modem again as it might get even worse down!! So once again, I will have Astound back out this Friday (Feb 8th) -- sorta getting annoyed at this point. I'm a software engineer and this IS affecting the efficiency of my work flow.

I'll give Astound one last chance, but if they don't fix it and keep it fixed, then I'm going back to Comcast -- slower but consistant and reliable.

call 800-427-8686 and ask for tier II and have them rebuild your profile. also might want to upgrade firmware on your linksys, make sure wan port is 100full and not auto and i assume you are not on wireless as it is half duplex.
