| Maybe the FTC can step in
I, for one, would like to see some government regulation on these junk fees in all the communication industry. Wouldn't the FTC be able to regulate these bogus fees under 'truth in advertising'? I'm not usually for government regulation of industry, but these bogus fees are completely out of hand. Phone companies are the worst about this. My Verizon bill has about $15 added just in taxes and fees. Vonage adds over $9 a month to my $25 bill, and AT&T was just as bad. I have friends that use Insight phone service (now Comcast) and they tell me they pay about $10 extra just in fees. It really infuriates me to see the industry colluding this. Of course if government regulations were introduced, the industries would just bring their high-powered lobbyists to stop them.  |

Lawyers for companies go over these advertised claims with a fine tooth comb and they know what has passed muster in the courts. Because many advertising claims have divergent legal vs common sense interpretations, companies can push the envelope to suck in the gullible. The nanny government supporters want the government to step in and "protect them" from their own stupidity. But government control over all facets of your life goes along with that desire to be protected. "Nanny government", which has gotten stronger over the years, is just a precursor to fascism.

| Please explain the difference? Protecting them from their own stupidity is a SUBSET of taking care of them, not the other way around. Taxing them is a SUBSET of taking care of them. Building roads is a SUBSET of taking care of them? How is homeland security (which is a SUBSET of taking care of them) any different? I mean, I could be STUPID, and try and take a bottle of mouthwash on my flight. The government is just 'taking care of my stupidity'.
Of course, the government 'taking care of people' is just another step on the road to fascism. (Not my quote)

i think companies should be forced to sell a service for what they say it is on TV with only tax being extra.
Blizzard doesnt charge me a server maintance fee, patching fee, character storage fee, forums access fee on top of my 14.95/mo WoW subscription. and if there where sales tax on it(which there isnt atleast not in NJ) that would be the only additional cost.

Once again, there's a huge difference between the government exceeding their boundaries and telling people what to do to protect them from their own stupidity and the government taking care of the people. Also, you twisted TCH's words therefore not quoting him, hence my comment that "your quote" isn't any other person's quote either. |
