Re: Maybe the FTC can step in

I, for one, would like to see some government regulation on these junk fees in all the communication industry. Wouldn't the FTC be able to regulate these bogus fees under 'truth in advertising'?
The FTC tries their best, but the courts shoot down overly onerous regulation time and time again. Lawyers for companies go over these advertised claims with a fine tooth comb and they know what has passed muster in the courts. Because many advertising claims have divergent legal vs common sense interpretations, companies can push the envelope to suck in the gullible. The nanny government supporters want the government to step in and "protect them" from their own stupidity. But government control over all facets of your life goes along with that desire to be protected. "Nanny government", which has gotten stronger over the years, is just a precursor to fascism.

"is just a precursor to facism".. Oh my GOD! I AGREE with you. See, with homeland security, working to 'protect us', and the NSA listing to all our calls, to 'protect us'. The Bush regime is the perfect example of the 'nanny government', which, in your own words ,"Is just a precursor to fascism"

There's a huge difference between the government telling the people what to do to protect them from their stupidity and the government taking care of the people

Please explain the difference? Protecting them from their own stupidity is a SUBSET of taking care of them, not the other way around. Taxing them is a SUBSET of taking care of them. Building roads is a SUBSET of taking care of them? How is homeland security (which is a SUBSET of taking care of them) any different? I mean, I could be STUPID, and try and take a bottle of mouthwash on my flight. The government is just 'taking care of my stupidity'.

Of course, the government 'taking care of people' is just another step on the road to fascism. (Not my quote)

The government protecting the people's welfare (e.g. clean drinking water, clean air, regulating radio transmission power levels, homeland security, etc.) is not the same as the government protecting you from yourself (e.g. bailing you out of your mortgage because you overextended yourself to buy a house, regulating businesses because poor consumers choose not to read their contracts before signing on the dotted lines, allowing you to keep your mouthwash because you can't follow instructions before passing through airport security, etc.).

Not any other person's quote either.

Umm, the OP, which is what I was replying to "But government control over all facets of your life goes along with that desire to be protected. "Nanny government", which has gotten stronger over the years, is just a precursor to fascism."

Once again, there's a huge difference between the government exceeding their boundaries and telling people what to do to protect them from their own stupidity and the government taking care of the people. Also, you twisted TCH's words therefore not quoting him, hence my comment that "your quote" isn't any other person's quote either.
