Austin, TX | DL/UL speeds accurate or understated? Hi,
I'm using Time-Warner cable for my broadband service, but have been scheduled for AT&T U-verse installation.
Currently, my cable-based speeds are around 6Mbps/0.5Mbps UL/DL. I'm slated to get the Pro level of U-verse net access with the advertised 3Mbp/1Mbps.
Are those numbers for the U-verse service accurate, or merely the guaranteed speeds, with the actual speeds seen by users much faster? If actual speeds are indeed the advertised 3Mbps/1Mbps, then I might as well stick with my current service.

kudos:3 | It will be close to those speeds. Why not upgrade to the Elite that's 6/1 or 10/1.5 ?
With uverse you don't get any boost technology that some cable providers offer. |

Speeds are overstated, meaning if you order 3/! you will almost 100% not get 3MB/1MB, but somewhat close. |

Upgrading to Elite would cost a lot more than what I am paying now ($50) for a very basic cable+net package. I guess I was tempted to try U-verse because the salesman really talked it up. Apparently he overstated the improvement I would see over cable. |

1 edit | Wow, that is some deal you have with cable! In Houston, it was $45 just for cable internet (at the time before we had U-verse there was only 1 tier for internet) not even including taxes/fees/price hikes! |

In Uverse - they aren't overstated. Uverse doesn't use same ATM technology that DSL uses. I have Uverse 3m/1m and I get 2900ish Down and 900ish upload no matter the time of day. |

It was $40 just for cable internet till very recently when I asked them to cancel all of my cable TV. They then lowered the internet part to $35 and offered basic cable TV for $15 additional. Perhaps the additional competition from u-verse played a role. |

I'm going to let them install the u-verse service and then cancel all of it unless they can give me the internet portion for less than what I'm paying for cable now.
This is assuming the u-verse internet part is more reliable than my cable access. |

Just when I had cable..at peak times - my speeds were very diminished - usually at a 1/3 of the max... rejoiced the day DSL was available (no more peak time issues) even happier when Uverse was available. |
