| DL/UL speeds accurate or understated? Hi,
I'm using Time-Warner cable for my broadband service, but have been scheduled for AT&T U-verse installation.
Currently, my cable-based speeds are around 6Mbps/0.5Mbps UL/DL. I'm slated to get the Pro level of U-verse net access with the advertised 3Mbp/1Mbps.
Are those numbers for the U-verse service accurate, or merely the guaranteed speeds, with the actual speeds seen by users much faster? If actual speeds are indeed the advertised 3Mbps/1Mbps, then I might as well stick with my current service.

With uverse you don't get any boost technology that some cable providers offer. | |

In Uverse - they aren't overstated. Uverse doesn't use same ATM technology that DSL uses. I have Uverse 3m/1m and I get 2900ish Down and 900ish upload no matter the time of day. | |

Yes, but now that they have fiber to my neighborhood, and the bandwidth from that node to my house is supposedly much higher, it seems the internet access can be much higher, too, if AT&T wanted.
I'm going to let them install the u-verse service and then cancel all of it unless they can give me the internet portion for less than what I'm paying for cable now.
This is assuming the u-verse internet part is more reliable than my cable access. | |

Just when I had cable..at peak times - my speeds were very diminished - usually at a 1/3 of the max... rejoiced the day DSL was available (no more peak time issues) even happier when Uverse was available. | |

| Upgrading to Elite would cost a lot more than what I am paying now ($50) for a very basic cable+net package. I guess I was tempted to try U-verse because the salesman really talked it up. Apparently he overstated the improvement I would see over cable. | |

It was $40 just for cable internet till very recently when I asked them to cancel all of my cable TV. They then lowered the internet part to $35 and offered basic cable TV for $15 additional. Perhaps the additional competition from u-verse played a role. | |
