Didn't Sony Try This?

Why not bury it in...

So lets put something on the computers and not tell anyone. That is tantamount to installing a hack. A RICO in the making.

RIAA

Maybe in a few years, the RIAA will be non-existent. Rumors having U2 going out on their own joining other music people like Radiohead, Paul McCartney, etc. and marketing their music in alternate ways may put a crimp in the RIAA. It appears that trying to keep the old business models is not working for some entertainers. When will the music industry wake up and join the 21st century. Maybe then they can come up with a model that reduces piracy through better serving the end customer instead of serving their own greed.

Re: RIAA

There is no place for the middle man anymore. The hobo has to step off the gravy train, but he doesn't want to.

The Sony/BMG rootkit software - *I* wasn't affected by it - go figure.

All three of my Sony VAIOs can rip CDs with Sony provided software!

Sony SonicStage.

We'll forget about Roxio(also supplied by Sony on this laptop)... or the other softwares pre-installed.

Not true. They will bribe request that Congress pass an exemption for them along with retroactive immunity for any work they may already have in place. RIAA is in no danger of being subject to any kind of conspiracy laws.
