Monthly Price and Speed

Just want to see an update.

What is everyone paying and what speed do you have?

I am paying $24.95/month for 3.0 MBps (About 2.4 actual)

Ever since I bought a 100 foot phone line and connect it to my modem my connection is very solid. Maybe 1-2 disconnections in the last..9 months or so?

I am in Santa Clara and recently upgraded to 3M for $34. So far the best download i have got is 1.7M so i am working to see what i can do to get closer to 2.5M which is what i expected. My modem is the spreedstream 5260 which i have had since 1999 so i am wondering if i need a new modem.

Ok so you have the new bundle.......but what modem is giving you that great speed and did you have any problems getting it or did it just happen from the time your new service was turned on

Your modem is not your speed issue, though it is dated and doesn't have some of the diagnostic capabilities of the newer modem chipsets. I would a basic troubleshooting on your connection, if that doesn't work, get a newer modem. EarthLink will pitch a fit when you tell them you have a 5260, they will say " support your modem, we do not, new modem you need."

I have the ZyXEL P-660R. Its an ADSL2 capable modem. I am about 4,000 feet from the CO. I've had the service from the beginning which is almost a year now. I just wouldn't recommend porting your number over to Earthlink because of horror stories where it takes about a month to port over. And that's a month without dial tone. So far service has been great.

You have 3 Meg DSL and the 5260 is rated for "up to" 8 Mbps ADSL so no, you don't need a new Modem.

3360/864 @ $39.99 and that speed better not go down and that price better not go up if Elink wants to keep me.

HA-HA your indo-yoda speak cracked me up
Based on all the help here dont think i will blame the modem and spend shipping costs on a new one from Yoda.

Unsure what line conditioning stuff i can do to get my speed up to within 75% of the nominal 3M. Any tips???

I'm paying $32.95 a month for 6.0/768 (actually 5.1/650)through Covad. And no contract. I'm month to month. Considering Verizon offers 3.0 service for $30 a month around this area, I can't complain.

I have the Earthlink Phone and DSL 8000/1000 package. I pay $77.68 a month. Fortunately, I live within a 1/2 mile of my CO and have good, clean line. My speed is great and I have not had any problems with Earthlink worth mentioning in the last year.

Wow, I'm being raped. I'm shelling out $49.95 for home phone (500 minutes) and 1535/365.
I don't even get kissed.

That must be sarcasm as you have two services that separately would cost much more if from the Local Telco.

Telephone with unlimited L/D $52.00
DSL 1.5 service $34.95
--------- -
Subtotal $86.95

$80.00 to $90.00 versus the $50.00 you are paying is not a bad deal at all. It is quite the opposite of being raped.

Nope. What I need is the winning Lotto numbers as a single winner when the Jackpot to a single winner is over 20 Million. Now that is something I really need. Otherwise, everything else beside the true need for food, air and water is really a want.
