Canon XSi & amateur dSLR users (post some pics)

I will be going on a 6,500 mile road trip this summer and would like to get a dSLR camera. I would consider my self a beginner, but others with SLR's have considered me an amateur. The pictures I have take from a Canon A610 and Canon SD750 are really good, but I really want a dSLR for the roadtrip as we will be going to the SW and I just love the SW. I plan on getting the body only and then getting a bit better lens (don't recall the name, but IIRC, it was $200) What do you guys think? Worth it or no?

Also, post up some pics for you beginner and amateur dSLR users. I'm interested to see what people can do.

Have you looked at Pentax? The best bang for your buck these days....(this is coming from a Canon owner)

Well, I'm still fairly new, having had mine about 9 months or so now. Here's some of what I shot in that time:

Check out my flickr - »www.flickr.com/photos/chriscallanan/ Basically everything there except for the underwater shots in Maui was taken with my entry level Pentax *istDL (same sensor as the K100D)

I don't really feel like taking the time to upload photos for this thread.
Then why the heck did you take the time to post this response?!?!?!?

Im a bit behind in the DSLR world now. I still shoot with a 300D, and still love it. My thoughts on the whole thing, anyone entering into the world of a DSLR will love it compared to their point and shoot. I will say that other than possibly getting the 5D, im looking at the possiblity of switching to Pentax when I buy my next camera.

I don't have the Canon XSi, but my gallery is full of XT, XTi and 5D photos if you want to look at them.
