Browsing problems in Guelph

Hey guys,

I have really bad browsing here. Slow DNS resolution times or many times "no page" errors.

Tried all possible / alternitive DNS servers including OPenDNS, but no luck. Looks like something really weired going on here. Any one with sluggish browsing in Kitchner/Waterloo or Guelph?

I was just browsing this section of the forums to see if anyone on Sympatico was experiencing connectivity problems in the Guelph area (Teksavvy is my ISP, but they lease from Bell).

I've been experiencing the same browsing issues you listed. Connection has been really flaky ever since my profile was downgraded nearly two weeks ago.

See, I was recently downgraded from 4000/800 profile to 3000/512 because my line stats suddenly and mysteriously became a bit worse. They were bad enough as it is, I live at College and Janefield and apparently the end-point for my DSL connection is somewhere downtown.

Identical issues in Toronto now for a few days in south Etobicoke. When I call Sympatico I get told all is well.

Sympatico probelms in Waterloo

I've been having the same flaky connection problems as others (London/Guelph) since Thursday evening (Feb 7) right through until 2pm today (Feb 8).

Spent 45 mins on phone with tech support where they spent all of their time getting me to test my modem and even suggested that I buy their combo modem/router because my "third party" router might be the issue (even though I have never had any issues).

I wish they had just told me that the problem is on their end and that they're working on it.

Any updates from anyone else?

If you are having issues with browsing, post the IP you are being assigned from Sympatico. There could be a new range of IPs that are not resolving properly.

Big problems here in Ottawa all afternoon. One moment it's fine, another can't get any page up. That means my Vonage phone is down, too.

Ugh.

Also guys, I've kinda partially solved the problem by installing local DNS server. The browsing speed dramatically improved due to drop in latency. DNS request goes to local 127.0.0.1. The program is "TreeWalk" easy installable and unistallable too. So no more broken pages.

Additionally the problem was also on my side, I've got infected with some spyware that was trying to get through my firewall. It was killed by Spysweeper, (get it free with 1 year legit license) Lost the link for full version file. Could dig it up if someone is interested.

Hope everybody got better browsing now

Cheers
