Re: Vista issues

I can take a new machine that you would consider an affordable mid range and put XP on it and it will have
much better performance than a top of the line machine running Vista. Most people don't want to spend 3000-4000 bucks to get enough processing power to run Vista.

It's pretty bad to have a $1200 machine run circles around a $3000 machine just because of the OS

Well, it is a year old and I didn't spend anywhere near 3-4 grand. I did spend more than average but I have a budget too. I spent on what I did to TRY to future proof a machine that will serve as a really good household unit for just 2 people. If I could spend 3-4 grand you bet it would be a screaming machine whether it was XP or Vista. Everyone has their opinions and I was just letting the masses know that this was not a BASIC machine, but not a monster either and it was running without one error or problem. So in response to your last sentence, I didn't spend much more than your 1200 and still don't have problems. Microsoft has a long way to go with a lot of things, but my next machine will be Vista again. If I have problems then I have two ways to look at it. Either the second machine was a lemon or the first was just that 1 in 100 (so to speak) that worked. Either way, don't hate me for the post of general information.

SP1 is done, it's RTM. i work at MS and i run it on all my machines @ work and home. it has made a noticeable difference in most of my machines. my wife has an HP laptop that had real issues coming out of standby, those issues have seemed to have gone away. file transferring is definitely faster. i will be the first to say that Vista should not have been released until this SP1 was done. the product was shipped with known issues and that really ticks me off. i personally feel MS should release RTM version of their OS's for free and let people use it or not then sell the version with the first SP1. that way it has been properly vetted and is less likely to create negative public opinions like those found in threads like these....
