But I am getting it with AT&T.
So, hell, I'd pay the extra 5 to AT&T (except I don't have to) just because I've found their speed and customer service (which I was on a lot with Elink) are just better.

You don't know my posts that well then as I call it like I see it is when there are problems and I pull no punches for or against EL. My posts in this Forum tearing EL a new hole for their screw ups are easy to find.

However, anyone can have improved service or exactly the same service or even worse service when going directly to AT&T, but it makes one think when dramatic positive changes are seen, what was really the problem when the phone line didn't change, the house didn't move and the CO didn't move, but visibly different and dramatic changes occur none the less. It makes one think that somewhere someone might be involved with sabotage of lines or lines conditions in effort to gain customers from resellers of their services or competing services, but it can't easily be proven when we are outsiders. However changing providers normally has no effect on the top DSL speeds unless *something* was changed that altered the phone lines abilities/capabilities/capacities and we all know that the line distance didn't magically grow shorter. ;)

Then on the other hand you see occasional posts here about people that get EL DSL and they are tickled pink because they were told by AT&T they were not eligible for AT&T DSL or they were too far away for AT&T DSL. Many things go on that are behind the scenes and therefore hidden from end users like you and I, but we do have eyes and brains which give us the ability to see differences happen when they should not occur. o:

I stay with EL for the price and the fact my line is near perfect (could not ask for more, wish the damn electric power here was as reliable :[). In my area, AT&T DSL (formerly Bellsouth) is $46.99 plus extra fees (unless you spend more on the Telco side and bundle added cost features) for what I get for $39.99 normal total rate with EL and I can get it for $29.99 to $34.99 when price matching to old SBC pricing when I'm lucky with a less informed rep. ;)

I wish you all the best with your new service and I hope it meets all your needs.

Regards,

Doctor Olds
--
What’s the point of owning a supercar if you can’t scare yourself stupid from time to time?

Then there are the speed differences as AT&T limits Earthlink customers to 3.0 sync rates on their provisioned lines (even if it could connect faster) and Earthlink customers that are close enough to have 6.0 sync rates in AT&T areas are instead provisioned by Covad, but only when the line is connected to a CO (no remotes) that have a Covad DSLAM available.
--
What’s the point of owning a supercar if you can’t scare yourself stupid from time to time?

pybarrondo : This has been going on all week long for me in Corona. Brutally slow connection, worse than dial-up. Customer service won't take calls. Recorded message says it'll all be better in an hour, and it never is. It seems to come back but only for five minutes or so, then slow again. There's a major problem, and this kind of customer service is a very bad way to handle it. How about giving people some realistic idea of how bad things are rather than stringing us along. I can't believe I'm paying for this. Unbelievable.
